More About Gertrude Chandler Warner
Gertrude Chandler Warner was born on April 16, 1890, in Putnam, Connecticut. She came from a musical family and played the cello. Because of illness, she was unable to finish high school, and learned from a tutor. In 1918, because all of the male teachers were away fighting in World War I, she was asked to teach first grade. The majority of children in her class did not speak English well, and she made up "The Box-Car Children" in 1924. The book remained a single title, until it was republished in 1942, becoming very popular. Another book followed in 1949, then a total of 19 by the same author. A total of 154 books have been written as of 2013, although by different authors. Later in life, Warner became a volunteer for the Red Cross. She died on August 30, 1979, at the age of 89, and is buried in Grove Street Cemetery in Putnam.

I love mystery books and this book was the one that I liked best. This book also tells about how important animals are. This is a story about the Alden kids ,who visit their grandfather's friend, Edward, who owns a zoo. Strage things happen at the zoo!!!! There are 2 suspects. Helen Brook, who wants to close the zoo and Mac Treacher, who owns a book store. The Alden kids try to solve the mystery of the zoo and I'm pretty sure that you will love this book.

I really liked reading this book because I like animals and mysteries... I know you would love this book, too! It's about the Alden kids that visit a friend who owns a zoo. Strange things happen at the zoo, including that the electricity wires were cut, and Benny's favorite animal was kidnapped! It's up to the boxcar kids to solve the mystery... who is trying to ruin the zoo? There are two eccentic suspects... so which one did the crime? Or did someone else do it
