More About Gertrude Chandler Warner
Gertrude Chandler Warner was born on April 16, 1890, in Putnam, Connecticut. She came from a musical family and played the cello. Because of illness, she was unable to finish high school, and learned from a tutor. In 1918, because all of the male teachers were away fighting in World War I, she was asked to teach first grade. The majority of children in her class did not speak English well, and she made up "The Box-Car Children" in 1924. The book remained a single title, until it was republished in 1942, becoming very popular. Another book followed in 1949, then a total of 19 by the same author. A total of 154 books have been written as of 2013, although by different authors. Later in life, Warner became a volunteer for the Red Cross. She died on August 30, 1979, at the age of 89, and is buried in Grove Street Cemetery in Putnam.

I'm a little girl (9 years old) but I know what is a good or bad book. I love mysteries and for the persons like me (who love mystery's books) this is an excellent, excellent book. I love it and the mysteries on the story confuse everyone. That is perfect. Read this book, is super super cool.

I think this book is good,because it has good pictures.Also,cause the kids go to a camp out and they get so scared they have to carry a flashlight.Also, I like this book because the lights go out and they screem and its funny. they think they see something like a ghost,and this is why I like this book.

This book is about Benny,Jessie,Violet,Herny,and their Granfather.This is a good book.Who ever didn't read this book yet you shoud read it.I will give 3 star.The Aldens went on a camp out in Blue Mound State Park.They hear a loud noises at night.Wonder who is making those noises?If you read it you will find out.

I really liked this story because I like mysteries...I know you will like this book too. It is about the Aldens and they want to spend a camping trip with their grandfather but during their camping trip weird things have been going on. Who is this person? Read the book to find out.

There are so many different topics that a teacher can tie into this book: nature studies, camping trips for elem/ secondary students during vacations, also conservation of our natural resources in today's society.
