Publishers Description For tens of thousands of Christians, Charles Haddon Spurgeon's Morning and Evening has been a daily devotional guide through life's ups and downs. But as time has passed, younger generations, nurtured on contemporary versions of the Bible and less familiar with Spurgeon's beautiful but sometimes difficult prose of the nineteenth century, have needed a devotional guide that made sense to them, written in their language, using the Scripture with which they are familiar. To that end, this new revised edition of Morning and Evening offers readers the best of the past--Spurgeon's insight and wise counsel--and the best of the present--the fresh, meaningful prose of the New International Version. Special Features: - Each day's devotions are presented on a two-page spread for complete ease of use. - Each of the 732 devotions--one for every morning and evening of the year--provides inspiring meditations on portions of Scripture drawn from every book of the Bible. - A new topical index helps readers discover Spurgeon's thoughts on various topics important to Christian life. - An index of texts lets readers find what Spurgeon had to say about a particular Bible verse. Spurgeon has penned meditations, expressed simply but eloquently, that continue to draw readers to faith and obedience. Though Spurgeon published thousands of sermons and many books, Morning and Evening remains by far his most popular work. This attractive, contemporary edition makes it easier than ever to enjoy it.

Great devotional. Nov 12, 2008
Jesus Christ is the same today, yesterday and forever. God never changes and while some of us try to compromise our faith in this ever-changing world, we need to realize that the God of Abraham is the same God we serve today. I'm appalled at how Christians try to compromise our faith in order to fit in. Yes, i've been guilty several times of this so i'm not pointing any fingers. Needless to say, it's awesome to have a devotional that relies on the word of God, that has truth in it and reminds you of who God is. This devotional is very relevant in today's culture. God is still the same so let's not twist stuff in the bible in the name of present day culture. As a young adult who is trying to strengthen my walk with Christ, i find it refreshing to find a devotional that isn't 'sweetened' up to suit the part of me that wants to be godly and yet partake in the world. I want something that hits me with the plain truth and make me realize that i need to make Christ Jesus my primary focus. That's exactly what i get from this book. There are times i cry when i start reading the devotional cuz the tears just flow down my eyes. There are times when i read and learn something about God's love for me and that encourages me to keep on, to walk on by faith.
This is a great devotional but i think it's best to read the complete and unabridged version. I got a new copy of the unabridged here on this site for lot, lot cheaper i think it makes a lot more sense than these modern day translations. However, the modern day ones are good. Whichever one you get, i hope you approach God each morning and evening and like i read the other day, we don't need to approach God in the morning and evening and live the rest of the day in utter ignorance of him.
If you're looking for something that paints a gray picture of living for Christ, this isn't it. If you're looking for something that tells you Jesus Christ isn't the only way to the Father, this ISN'T your book either. This isn't gonna tell you all lifestyles, religion and worldviews are equally valid. If you want to know God, know him as He is, not as you want Him to be. Remember, you can't serve both God and Mormon. For those who get this book, i hope it draws you closer to the Almighty God.
Challenging Nov 11, 2008
Charles Spurgeon is elloquent and challenging, which is why I started with a daily reading book by him. Above that, I will have to make sure I'm ready for change to read his heavier works. He was truly a man after Gods own heart.
Are you kidding me? Nov 2, 2008
I was looking for a new daily devotional book and with all the great reviews out there for this I thought I couldn't go wrong with Spurgeon.
It might just be me but I find this boring, irrelevant in today's culture and just not stimulating at all. Occassionally I have enjoyed a day's reading but generally I give up after a paragraph... Sorry for all the people out there that love the 'classics' but save your money and buy something else.
Start Your Day Feb 17, 2008
Of all the devotional books I own and read, Spurgeon is by far the best. I bought this as a birthday gift for my sister. She confirmed what I thought..."it's much meatier than my other devotionals." My version is King James. No matter...it's a winner!
Breath of Fresh Air Jan 2, 2008
Charles Spurgeon had a way with words. He writes with earthy, digestible language that anyone can understand. This compilation of his morning and evening devotionals is a breath of fresh air (I often read Spurgeon at night instead of brushing my teeth and find that in the morning, I wake up with the freshest taste in my mouth).
