Item description for 10,000 Topical Illustrations from the Bible: A Valuable Resource for Speakers, Writers and Preachers by Charles Little...
Overview Need to find an insightful illustration but don't know where to look? Often the best and richest illustrations are those that come from God's Word. Charles E. Little's classic reference has been a valuable tool for generations of speakers, writers and preachers. Over 30,000 entries including Scripture texts, illustrations and cross-references have been assembled under almost 1,800 topical headings, providing a tremendous range of choices, from important theological themes to intriguing connections between the Bible and life. 10,000 Topical Illustrations from the Bible offers four reference features in one volume: * llustrations: Biblical facts, incidents, and statements that touch every phase of life. * Quotations: Scriptural quotes that are sufficiently complete in the text to eliminate the need for follow-up reference. * Topical Studies: Thousands of references and cross-references that provide a remarkable collection of alphabetically-arranged subject entries. A Scripture index also keys texts to their subject categories. * A Practical Concordance: The entries cite references containing a specific word and locate others that may relate to it.

Illustrations that illuminate with the truth Nov 9, 2006
This is one of my favorite book on the sermon illustrations. The word of God used as illustration to enlighten and illuminate the passage at hand is double blessing for the hearers AND preachers alike.
While modern illustrations gather their anecdotes from newspapers, movies, stories, and real life biographies, this book solely gathers illustrations from the Holy Bible, which is timeless. Since the Bible is relevant in any age, so the illustrations from the Bible is also relevant.
1. The book is nicely divided into topics (1800 topical headings) and arranged alphabetically and numbered (10,029 in all). And most of the topics are also cross-referenced (30,000 of them) for similar topics as well so that you can glean various Biblical illustrations. 2. It has a "textual index" at the end of the book for further usefulness. Every Biblical illustration is indexed with passage reference and number, so you can check how the passage is used. 3. Fonts can be bothersome however. It is not easy on your eyes. The book was printed before computer age, so the letters seemed to be typed.
All in all, I heartily recommend this book to any preacher or writer.
