Life-changing, but prefer the older version Feb 1, 2007
This book on prayer answered questions I didn't even know I had. I recommend that people first read Finney's Memoirs for an exciting picture of what God did through him & his ministry. That is the best of Finney & will help you understand his other works. I honestly prefer the older version of this book because it is less 'updated' and uses a more literal translation of the Bible in its quotations. I consumed this book, going through it twice in a few weeks. Highly recommended.
Very Informative Book Jan 6, 2007
There is a lot of information in this little book. It is good for a group or individual study. Finney talks about a lot of aspects of prayer that people don't usually talk about, like seeing things from God's point of view. The chapters are short and easy to read, although the language is a little dated. It is a nice break from so many books that seem to all say the same thing.
Awesome! Jun 26, 2006
These men of old really knew how to talk to God! Great book!
The First in the Finney Principles Series!! Aug 19, 2004
This book eventually led to 15 more books that I published with Bethany House Publishers! Most recently, I have published Finney's "Principles of Righteousness" with Agion Press.
Out of all the Finney books I published for Bethany House Publishers, only "Principles of Prayer" remains in print, and the other Principles Series books are hard to find.
Because of your interest in prayer, I believe you will also enjoy "Prayer Steps to Serenity the Twelve Steps Journey: New Serenity Prayer Edition," which teaches truths that I learned from studying Finney and Murray for many years. The book follows a 12 Steps and Serenity Prayer format. It is available through this site, with ISBN 0977805387. If you know of anyone who is looking for a 12 Step devotional that will help them walk in the power of the Holy Spirit according to the scriptures, you can heartily recommend this book to them. "Prayer Steps to Serenity" is larger than a trade paperback (a 9 inch by 6 inch paperback) that includes devotional readings, prayers to encourage you to keep on praying as the Holy Spirit leads, a personal Journey Guide (or workbook), and a Group Journey Guide for prayer and support groups. "Prayer Steps to Serenity" is also supported by two websites that offer a lot of free guides and resources for those seeking more information about Christian recovery and starting Serenity Groups. Always Say A Prayer! L.G. Parkhurst, Jr.
An awesome book on prayer Aug 27, 2001
This was one of the first Finney books I ever read in the mid-80s. The principles of prayer I learned from this book then are still used in my life today. This book is the cream of his teaching on prayer from his Lectures on Revivals, broken down into daily devotionals. If you're longing for revival, or longing for God to answer your prayers, this may be just the book you need.
