Item description for The Law in Holy Scripture: Essays from the Concordia Theological Seminary Symposium On Exegetical Theology by Charles a. Gieschen...
Overview There is a significant amount of confusion and diverse opinion in the church and among biblical scholars concerning "the Law" in Holy Scripture. This volume consists of essays delivered during the 2001 (16th) Annual Symposium on Exegetical Theology at Concordia Theological Seminary. Biblical scholars with expertise in the Old Testament, Jesus and the Gospels, and the Pauline Epistles offer a wide and representative portrait of the Law in Holy Scripture and its ongoing significance. The Proper Biblical Function of the Law Jan 9, 2006
In our modern antinomian times, the Law either gets slighted or omitted, or it is used in unbiblical ways. Thus, a symposia in 2001 on the topic. The result here is mostly the papers presented at that gathering, plus one additional one. Most of the essayists are Lutherans with the exception and worthy NT scholar's excellent addition: Dr. Dale Allsion Jr.
All the essayists agree that the Law is essential to the faithful, but used in the correct application and manner. Highlights for this reader were especially the essay on the state of the law in the church by David Scaer, as well as the e excellent treatment of OT outlook into NT usage by Paul Raabe, as well as the worthy read of Paul's usage of the law by Charles Gieschen.
This will aid all pastors in their concept of the Law and its tendencies in their preaching/teaching.
