Reviews - What do customers think about Thinking About Christ With Schleiermacher?

Thinking about Christ with Schleiermacher  Apr 23, 2010
Schleiermacher is not an easy read. His prose in his theological writings has the charm of Kant. This book, however, is very readable. Not only does the author cover the most important points with clarity, she accomplishes this with great accuracy and no distortions that I could find. She also shows how Schleiermacher is relevant to living a Christian life well and joyfully. The book is a real achievement.

Personally, I think that Schleiermacher misses something when he thinks of god consciousness as "absolute dependence." I felt that this book helped me gain a better understanding of what god consciousness means in my life. More recently, it seems to me that Schleiermacher must have been heavily influenced by Augustine; but I don't remember this being clear in this book--a trivial problem considering how very well Schleiermacher's dense thought is presented.

I have written this review two years after reading it because I was looking to buy the book as a birthday gift for a friend (not a bad recommendation) and saw that there were no reviews. That seemed too bad, so this quick effort is my endorsement. If I didn't like it so much, I wouldn't have done so
