Item description for Get Positively Beautiful: The Ultimate Guide to Looking and Feeling Gorgeous by Carmindy...
Overview A makeup artist from What Not to Wear combines self-help advice and beauty techniques to challenge women to disregard media messages that make them feel inherently flawed, in a guide that shares tips on how to embrace a positive and customized beauty philosophy.
Publishers Description According to a recent study, only 2% of women describe themselves as 'beautiful.' (Dove Global Study 'The Real Truth About Beauty: A Global Report', 2004) The media instructs women how to 'look ten years younger,''cover up wrinkles,' or 'get fuller, plumper lips.' And even makeup products play off womens' insecurities, promising to conceal perceived flaws, define cheekbones, or make eyelashes fuller and longer. The underlying message? That there's something inherently wrong with the way women look and that they have to spend time, money, and energy keeping up with all the ways they should 'fix' themselves.
In GET POSITIVELY BEAUTIFUL, makeup artist Carmindy from TLC's hit program What Not to Wear shows you how to change your mindset from negative fault-finding to a positive beauty philosphy. You learn how to find and focus on your best features and how to combat negative thoughts about your appearance. Carmindy demonstrates easy makeup techniques for eyes, brows, lashes, lips, cheeks, and skin, and how to adapt looks to different weather conditions and 'beauty moods.'

Impressed. Apr 14, 2010
I wasn't expecting much of this, but I decided to give it a go. It has basic advice with highlights of advanced technique tips. It had plenty of photos to get Carmindy's point across.
great book Apr 8, 2010
This is a great book, containing just what you'd expect. Carmindy is an amazing makeup artist and pics in the book prove this. The transformations are amazing! The photos are beautifully taken, too. And there's lots of different types of models (all "real" people), which is nice. There's also a fabulous list of recommended products at every price point, which is great. Carmindy encourages you to love your natural, unique beauty and shows you how to enhance it, and that's why I love her!
Miracle Worker! Feb 18, 2010
Carmindy is amazing. I'm a big WNTW fan, but the makeovers would be just so-so if it weren't for the magic she performs on ordinary women. Even if all you do is look at the before and afters, this book is worth buying! But do read all the text and you will look at yourself in a new and more flattering light. It sure made me think about how overly critical I am of my own appearance. I'm so happy I bought it. I just wish the friends I've loaned to to would read it faster so I can read it again.
One of the best makeup books around Jan 23, 2010
I love makeup and I have bought many books on the subject. Carmindy's book is one of my favorites. Even though there are many pictures of her (she's gorgeous, I'd have my picture all over if I were that pretty too), the pictures of the real women, seem REAL women, and I am glad to see that they don't look airbrushed. In the pictures you can actually see the pores on people's skin ... you can see the texture, you can see it's real skin: pretty, evened out, yet real. In other books (like Kevyn Aucoin's books) you don't know what was achieved through makeup and what was achieved through Photoshop. Carmindy gives precise tips for your eye color, for your eye shape, for your face shape, etc. I enjoyed reading it, not only for the makeup tips, but for the "embrace your beauty" philosophy behind it. I am glad I got this book.
Beauty from the INSIDE OUT!!! Oct 6, 2009
Skinny Scoopers LOVE this book. Carmindy shares her talent and experience to help us all get a little "maintenance". There are simple beauty tricks throughout the book that any one of us can benefit from. Listen to what 1 cosmetic item she'd take along if stranded on a desert island at [...].
We're so excited to get our hands on her next book. She is the ultimate example of looking and feeling GORGEOUS!!!
