Item description for Spider Blue by Damron Carla...

SPIDER BLUE - A Caleb Knowles Mystery Reissue Edition Social Worker Caleb Knowles' quiet southern life is disrupted by two horrendous crimes: Frances Callahan, a young nurse and mother of two, is found stabbed to death in front of her suburban home. Across town, a worker draws a gun and opens fire on his fellow employees. Caleb has a personal and professional connection to the murders: a good friend, Maggie Wells, lives near the murdered woman and now fears for her own safety. And, after a bizarre suicide attempt, the gun-wielding mill worker becomes Caleb's client. With the help of his brother, Sam, a deaf artist, Caleb uncovers the strange link between the two crimes in the form of another client: a disturbed teen age boy, the millworker's son. But Caleb's investigation into these events draws him into a dark, confusing world of drive-by shootings, gangs, and street drugs. And Caleb's efforts to protect his friend might just prove deadly-for Sam and for Caleb. Carla Damron, a licensed clinical social worker, taps into her keen insight into human behavior in the Caleb Knowles series. Spider Blue has received impressive reviews from print and on-line media. Spider Blue is the second in the series featuring social worker Caleb Knowles and his brother, Sam, a deaf artist. Spider Blue is set in the midlands of Damron's native South Carolina.

Reviews - What do customers think about Spider Blue?

Inside View  Jun 26, 2007
If you like to delve into twisted minds and look in on relationships, and who doesn't, you'll enjoy Spider Blue. Seems Carla Damron has a lot of experience doing both.
excellent murder investigation  Nov 7, 2005
In Westville, South Carolina, everyone is shocked when someone stabs to death the mother of two children, nurse Frances Callahan in front of her home. Shannon McPherson's best friend Maggie Wells is watching the kids, but fears for her own life. Shannon drags her therapist boyfriend Caleb Knowles to Maggie's home to see how they can help her. His friend Detective Claudia Briscoe heads the investigation so Caleb, who has worked with law enforcement before agrees to let her know if the kids say anything useful.

The next morning Caleb's boss Dr. Matthew Ryker calls to tell him to get over to Tindall Manufacturing where they provide employee assistance counseling. Apparently, worker Murphy Lumford killed floor supervisor Buck Swygert and severely wounded machine operator Sally Weston and electrician Beard. Along with Matthew and psychiatrist Dr. Grey Lazarus, Caleb has his work cut out as the firm's workforce is stunned and badly in need of grief and fear counseling. The cops asks Caleb to interview Murphy to learn why while also providing assistance to Frances' four year old daughter Emma, who has haunted him from that first night when he saw her eyes just after her mom was murdered.

The cast makes the tale must reading for fans who want more than the murder investigation. Readers accompany Caleb as he tries to help battle fatigue syndrome victims get through the shock of murder at "safe houses" like the plant or the nurse's home. As with the delightful KEEPING SILENT, Carla Damron provides a deep thriller that concentrates on the relationships of an everyman struggling to help others cope, but wondering who will help him cope with their haunted eyes.

Stupendous Spider  Mar 3, 2005
Carla Damron has done it again -- an enthralling mystery, well told, suspenseful throughout. Her social worker background gives a new twist to the mystery format with the fabulous Knowles boys. Can't wait for the next one!
Super Spider  Feb 25, 2005
What an amazing tale! A murder mystery told in the unique perspective of a social worker. Carla Damron beautifully weaves characters together to create a quirky and fragile community. Caleb Knowles interestingly stumbles upon one clue after another while caring for the emotionally troubled clients he's hoping to help. Immediately I found myself drawn to and caring about all of these well visualized people.
