Item description for Geology by Design: Interpreting Rocks and their Catastrophic Record by Carl R. Froede, Jr....
Overview Peeling back the layers of biblical geology. From the acclaimed Creation Research Society, this technical study of rock strata, and the fossils found therein, gives a solidly scientific rationale for believing in young earth. This advanced guide is ideal for upper-level homeschool students, college students, or anyone wishing to explore this fascinating subject in-depth and includes questions for review at the end of each chapter. Froede defines a credible geological time-line and describes the creatures found in rock sediments around the world. Heavily illustrated, with an extensive glossary and reference section.

Reviews - What do customers think about Geology by Design: Interpreting Rocks and their Catastrophic Record?
Geology by Design Jan 3, 2010
Are you looking for an evolution free way to teach geology? Are you wanting to compare different viewpoints in your geological studies? Geology by Design is a guide for high school students to "interpret rocks and their catastrophic record." This book can not be easily adapted for younger students. The sheer scientic data and terms would make it impossible for elementary students and possibly junior high students to comprehend. The pictures and their corresponding data, as well as the charts, could be used to spark a younger student's interest, but this is not a science program that one could use as a unit study with the entire family in a homeschool program. Geology by Design appears to be well researched and documented. Each chapter includes questions designed to check understanding. However, because Geology by Design is written in classic text book form, it might not capture and hold student interest. I believe it could be added as a supplemental text to aid understanding of Creationist viewpoints.

None of us know what the antedeluvian world looked like, but we sure know what the Noahic Flood did to it: the evidence is virtually everywhere you look. What is needed is a thorough and complete series of university level texts to present the scientific data.Universities everywhere are still resisting this. One obvious reason is that to admit that the layers of soil extant today required billions of years to be deposited is based upon false assumption (s) ...well this would be so acutely embarrassing to tens of thousands of academics,a mass hysteria/depression/economic disaster (their losing tenure ) would ensue. Naturally, these old guard curmudgeons are protecting their 'turf'. We saw this in the past when the Catholic powers that be burned people at the stake who challenged their power and authority also= by something as innocent as publishing Latin texts into plain languages of the commoner. Naturally old guard academics are so profoundly disturbed that they join forces to 'persecute' the new 'geology infidels'. Make no mistake about it...the geologic evidence of a world wide flood is absolutely ubiquitous. This book here rips away the underpinnings of the 'billions of years' theory...remember it is still a theory! More and more of these books are coming forward, as more and more geologists are seeing the obvious, and making it available to the common man. You should view the other reviewer- who gave the lowest rating possible, one star,- as his way of burning this book and its author at the stake, in a manner of speaking. There are books that give a nice overview, among them the book the old republican guard sued to have removed from the Grand Canyon visitor center... ( makes you want to see it all the more, huh?).. called "Grand Canyon: A Monument to Catastrophe". And then there is this book with a scientific approach. You will learn a number of new terms, such as "clastic dyke", or "distal turbidity facie","epeiric sea" and so on. Learning these terms will arm you with a keen eye for the strong evidence that only a massive flood could possibly have laid down these strata. Only a strata of semi-lithified mud could have cracked and allowed a very unlithified mud below ( under the enormous weight and pressure of a rapidly laid down mud layer above ) to inject itself into that crack above (or downwards as well-hence 'clastic dyke".) This book is extensively researched and referenced...some 22 pages of references, and a glossary. This is another in an ever growing list of revolutionary books. These authors are on their way up....the 'lone star boy' reviewer is on his way down, down , down....lower than Jaques Cousteua' diving weight. I was urged to read Carl R. Froede's "Geology by Design" by a young earth creationist who assured me that all my doubts about a young earth would be removed, and that all the physical evidence of an ancient earth would be refuted. Well, that did not happen. Instead I found another book that misrepresented geology, failed to account for the known data, and casually invoked miracles to patch-over internal failings of proposed diluvium scenarios.
The first, and most critical mistake made by Froede was that the science of geology was initiated as an effort to discredit biblical literalism. In fact, the founders of scientific geology were certain that the rocks and surface features of our planet were largely the result of the Noachian Flood. Only after decades of accumulated evidence that could not be resolved into a flood event, did the prevailing scientific conclusion rejecting a global flood prevail. It is not as Froede declared that, "uniformitarianism was established precisely to rid history of the Genesis flood (pg. 12)." The actual history of flood geology is presented better and in great detail by Davis A. Young, an evangelical Christian and Professor of Geology at Calvin College, in his 1995 book The Biblical Flood: A Case Study of the Church's Response to Extrabiblical Evidence (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, Paternoster Press). Wrapped in Froede's error is the notion that his biblical interpretation is the "Truth," and that if his understanding of Genesis 6:9-8 is not supported by science, then science is wrong. For a superior point of view, read David Snoke's 2006 book, A Biblical Case for an Old Earth (Grand Rapids: Baker Press), which if nothing else will dispel the notion that only a young earth, and global flood can be reconciled with the Bible.
But what of the science to be found in Froede's geology? It is as weak as his history and theology. Just one example will be sufficient. The first chapter of Froede's book presents the organization of the scientific geological column which he contrasts with his proposed "biblical geological time scale." Froede claims that the scientific geological column is "more gaps than record." My colleague Glenn Morton, a former young earth author who turned away YEC because he saw the field evidence with his own eyes, has compiled a list of locations around the world where the entire geological column, in its proper stratigraphic order, is substantiated. Variations in the specific materials reflect the range of environments we see today- there are oceans, deserts, and swamps scattered throughout the geological record.
Organized by continent, we see that the entire geological column is a global reality.

Once again atheists and evolutionists are shown to be silly hate-filled nay sayers. Jan 5, 2008
Excellent scholarly work that earns the author the hatred of those who dare dissent against the absurd religion of Darwinism, a religion of the ignorant and mentally ill who suffer from skpeticimia and delusions of granduer.
An Assault on Common Sense Dec 26, 2007
Ok, here is a simple question for the creationists like Froede who are convinced that the Earth is 6000 years old and Noah's Flood is responsible for the fossil record:
Why doesn't even one of the giant oil companies use the Creationist model of Earth history? Not one. Not Chevron, not Shell, not BP, not Exxon -- zero. After all, they don't care about evolution, they don't care about science -- they care about profits and this means finding oil. If the kooky ideas Froede promotes in this book were true, why isn't every oil company run by a Creationist?
