Great Kids' Picture Book! Nov 21, 2009
There are two new books put out by ZonderKidz by Julie Cantrell entitled "God is with Me through the Night" and "God is with Me through the Day." I can't tell you what a breath of fresh air it was to flip through the pages of these books and see that the pictures, style and text all fit well together. Each page has a large picture of a baby animal with a simple sentence. Each book highlights fears young children might have of the dark or during the day when separated from mom or dad because of school or day care. They then reassure children that God is always there and that mom and dad will always return.
These books would be perfect for very young children up through 5 or 6 years old. The pictures are cute and captivating, and the words are very simple. These books could very well be used to help early readers practice their reading skills, too. Kudos to Julie for sharing these books that were initially meant for her children. Kudos to ZonderKidz for recognizing great material for kids' picture books. I highly recommend these books.
Great message about coping with fear Sep 29, 2009
Cantrell's God is With Me series reminds adult readers of the fears children have and teaches children that fear is normal. What I like best about both books are how well the photos express Cantrell's text. Each page could be a poster that stands on its own! The Day book teaches children how to manage fear by howling like a wolf and roaring like a bear after reminding them that God loves them. I love this aspect of Cantrell's message because it is important to encourage in children coping skills appropriate for their age. Great gift for toddlers and early readers and a great message for all ages.
Pure honey! Sep 29, 2009
"God Is With Me Through The Day" is so sweet, it's like pure honey! This book will stir warm, comforting emotions from a small child to well...could you ever be too old to love smiling and feeling good? Well, that's what this book evokes...sweet thoughts. Both books (also,"God Is With Me Through the Night") are so worth reading and giving as gifts for many reasons. Mostly to spread good words and sweet pictures to all you love. Great for any occasion or just because.
Toddlers Too! Sep 23, 2009
My toddler already has very decided preferences about the books in his basket. If I pick up one that he is not particularly fond of, he closes the cover and peers over my lap to look for the next book. But for books that he likes, he settles back in my lap and listens and looks intently. This book is one of those on the "YES" list. And I'm so thankful. While he is perhaps still too young to understand every one of the words that I'm reading to him as he looks at these happy colorful photos, I am confident that the message is getting through. And the words in this book are truly words that I would choose to remind him that he is loved, he is cherished, he is God's. I look forward to this book growing with my son, and would recommend it for any age child as a happy and affirming reminder of God's presence in his or her world.
Perfect for toddlers to adults! Sep 18, 2009
This book and its companion God Is With Me Through The Night are wonderful, heartwarming stories. These books are a sweet, simple reminder to children of God's unconditional love and protection. Children of all ages can relate to this book as well as adults. We all have fears through the years that change as we grow older. At every age we begin new journeys and experience changes that are challenging and often times scary. When reading this book to a child, it can be a small reminder even to us adults that we should never forget that God is with us each and every day.
I purchased a set of these books for each of my nieces and nephews. Since her birthday in July, my 2 year old niece has been asking for "the God books" at bedtime. Even at her young age she grasps that God watches over us and keeps us safe just like her Mom and Dad. I am thrilled that she is enjoying them so much and know that the message will encourage and comfort her throughout her life.
I do not yet have children of my own, but I know that I will definitely be reading these books to them! These books will be read in my family for many years to come!
