Item description for Christian Confessions: A Historical Introduction by Ted A. Campbell...
Overview Explains the distinctives of each major strand in Christianity---Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, and Evangelical---on questions of authority, God and Christ, human nature and salvation, church and ministry, the sacraments, and more.
The historic teachings of four major Christian traditions--Eastern Orthodoxy, Roman Catholicism, Reformation and Union Churches, and Evangelical and Free churches--are set forth here in a comparative framework. Following a brief historical introduction of each tradition, Ted Campbell provides an extensive overview of the tradition's beliefs on religious authority, God and Christ, human nature and salvation, and church, ministry, and the sacraments. He concludes by considering whether a definable core of Christian teachings cuts across denominational and confessional boundaries.

Reviews - What do customers think about Christian Confessions?
An excellent historical introduction May 21, 1999
This book is an incredible resource for both clergy and laity alike. Ted Campbell does an outstanding job in tackling a complex subject. This book portrays each of the major branches of the Christian Church fairly and evenly. The cross-references in the book serve as a wonderful guide to studying each branch of Christianity seperately, or studying the differences and similarlities of each. This is a book that is difficult to put down once its been picked up.
