Item description for The Holy Wild: Trusting in the Character of God by Mark Buchanan & Lloyd James...
Overview Mark Buchanan's third book, The Holy Wild, continues his penetrating exploration of the God we worship. Bravely and honestly, he poses the direct question of human existence: Can God be trusted?
Publishers Description Can God be trusted? Canadian pastor and author Buchanan (Things Unseen; Your God Is Too Safe) argues yes in this hard-hitting evangelical book, which brandishes vivid imagery and biblical truth. Writing in colorful, expressive terms, Buchanan engages readers' hearts and attention as he challenges them to trust in three divine attributes: God's benevolent nature, his saving nature and his majestic nature. // Opening with a discussion of soul weariness, which most Christians experience at various times, Buchanan emphasizes the importance of trusting in a faithful God. A common obstacle to this trust is that Christians desire a God of love, but want to forget his equally essential quality as a God of wrath. Does anyone really want a God who is devoid of anger, asks Buchanan-especially when that anger is a purifying fire that responds to godlessness and wickedness? // Interestingly, Buchanan notes that God's wrath is played out most fully not when he delivers retribution but when he leaves his children to their own way-alone for all eternity. The author's passion convinces readers to dare enough to embrace the gift of rest from God. Though the reading generally moves along at a fast clip, the book's second section focuses on the foundations of salvation in lackluster fashion. The final sections, however, pick up momentum to finish in fine style.

Reviews - What do customers think about The Holy Wild: Trusting in the Character of God?
The Holy Wild Mar 26, 2008
Mark Buchanan is so descriptive in his imagery of the Holy One of the Bible. I found it refreshing, breathtaking, exciting, and of course as he discribes Him dangerous, but He is good. The use of C.S. Lewis' Narnia Chronicles as an anology is excellent and right on the mark. Mark takes our everyday struggles, our everyday questions and put them to the test and STILL the Holy Wild is indeed, good. Peace.
The Holy Wild changes lives Feb 11, 2008
Excellent book, I would recommend to anyone. It's bound to change your life forever. Learn how to live with an unsafe God - He's safe but good. Tells you how to recognize your need to change, how to get to a place of holy living, and how to stay there.
Trusting in a Wild God? Oct 17, 2007
I read and loved Mark's first book. So naturally I decided to read The Holy Wild. Mark's ability to connect spiritual truth about God's character in way that is identifiable to the heart of men is equal to that of John Eldridge. Anything Mark writes is worth the time!
One Of My Favorites! Feb 26, 2007
I love "The Holy Wild." It's a beautiful look in the character of God. Buchannan has such a wonderful way with words. He is a master of the English language. You'll be touch over and over again at God's love for you as you read this book. From stories of snakes to stories of tragedy, the book speaks volumes. Pick it up. Read it. You'll be glad that you did.
Buchanan gets is mostly right Sep 1, 2006
The beginning section is brilliant. The last section is powerful. In between it drags a bit. But the great insights into the Wild side of God are more than worth the price of the book. I find Mark Buchanan's work both challenging and enjoyable and I think you will too.
