Item description for Blue Daffodils and other poems by Owen Bryan...
These poems of loving and longing, of hope and excitement, of questioning and uncertainty, all arise out of the author's own peculiar story, but are not defined by it. This is the 'poetry of observation' - Bryan Owen watches, takes note, considers and reflects on what he sees in human behaviour. Bryan Owen wrote his first poems when an awkward and very nave teenager. Out of the pain and trauma of a difficult and loveless childhood, he started to explore both the world around him as well as his own inner geography, and to do so with what he calls 'wonderful, liberating, world-expanding words!' He became a teacher of English, and for many years immersed himself in other people's words and stories. He taught with passion and commitment a language he loved, and a literature that is unsurpassed in its beauty and ability to mirror and reveal the human condition. But now, in later years, the author feels once again the urge to explore his own story and his own perceptions of the people and world around, as he first did all those years ago when, as a teenager, he tentatively began to touch the real world and let it touch him. Maybe you will recognize something of yourself or your own ideals in these poems - your own loving and longing, your own hopes and excitement, and your own questioning and doubt as you live through another day and long through another night. And maybe, just maybe, you will smile knowingly from time to time as you read.
