Reviews - What do customers think about Holman Illustrated Pocket Bible Dictionary(Revise)?
Bought for a Family Member Dec 16, 2007
I purchased a copy of this book because I thought it would be interesting for a family member. However, when I got the book home and I checked it out I noticed there were no editorial comments on how the book was produced or what the guiding philosophy was in the entries. Is this a book primarily for a protestant or catholic point of view? There were no notes about attempts at objectivity or historical veracity. Now, I don't expect a book to cite archaeological evidence to support the existence of an individual but I do expect an explanation of the methodology used. It is not clear which version of the Bible it is based on. I like the entry format for the most part and I like the pictures but, hey, come on, where is the scholarly dissertation about how this book came into being? This book does not have a credited author but instead has a publisher listed as the author. Why should I take Holman Bible Publishers at their word?
