Terrific May 29, 2008
The book was in perfect condition. These books (Insight Guides) are wonderful books. I would recommend them for anyone who likes to travel.
Good, but seems to be missing some stuff Aug 13, 2007
I stayed in Tel Aviv and used this guide while there. I didn't even realize my hotel was just a block or so from Ben Gurion House, which I certainly would have visited had I known about it sooner. Nor did this guide address historical markers in the neighborhood I was in. This book seems to be primarily aimed at people who just want to "hang out at the beach or the mall." Now, the photography and the history are both done well, but still...
There's better books than this one. Apr 30, 2007
I've been to Israel a few time and was looking for some new and up to date travel insights. This was not it. The book is current, but does not appear to be up to date for travelers looking for recent travel information and local points of interest. It covered a lot of topics, but not much depth. I would stick with Fodor's or Lonely Planet. There are very few maps.
Really added perspective to my trip! Aug 21, 2006
This book DID give me lots of insight into the culture and people of Israel. I read it on the plane before I arrived, and felt it made my trip much more insightful. The book tells you things that don't often come up in conversation that really shed light on Israel.
Highly recommended - especially the first few chapters about history and people. Great photos, too. Yes, in one photo you see a lady's bum - this is the "innapropriate" photo the other reviewer was talking about.
If you're looking for detailed restaurant reviews this might not be the book for you, but a great overall guide to Israel - this is it!
Very Dark.... Jul 31, 2006
I bought this book recently and sent it back immediately! There was a lot of unappropriate information (not to mention pictures) enclosed within the pages. I am going to Isreal with a group and was looking for something a little bit more biblically based. This was not what I was looking for.
