Item description for Cat and Dog Theology: Rethinking Our Relationship with Our Master. Living Passionately for the Glory of God by Bob Sjogren & Gerald Robison...
Overview The God given traits of cats ("You exist to serve me") and dogs ("I exist to serve You") are often similar to certain theological attitudes held by many Christians in their view of God and their relationship to Him. Using the differences between cats and dogs in a light-handed manner, the authors challenge this thinking in deep and profound ways. This life-changing book will provide a new perspective and vision for God as we delight in the God who delights in us.

Want to Kickstart your Christian growth to next level-read this book! Jul 21, 2008
Seldom does a book like this have to power to change your thinking and therefore your life. The church has a great opportunity to get back to basics as this book reminds us that it is not about us, but about the Glory due to our Creator. If you think the main reason that Christ died was to save us--reread John 12.27,28 and then read this book to see how much of a "cat" Christian you might be. (Don't be fooled by the title of this book). It is the difference between how cats and dogs view the world (dogs have a master-in this case God; whereas cats have servants-God, the Church, Angels, etc.). This book is a must for all serious Christians. Remember this life is not all about you- it is about bringing the most Glory to our heavenly Father!
Life-changing surprises all throughout this book Jul 6, 2008
I picked up this book to read only because both of my boys attend a Christian college and were required to read it. I had some time during my workout on the eliptical and decided to open it. The moment I thought I had things figured out, something new would come at me. This book has changed the way I worship, the way I pray, the way I speak and think! I have lead many bible studies and am an author myself [...] - It was well done - I purchased 25 books and have handed out almost all of them! Read through the whole thing...it will not let you down. May the glory be to God alone!
Major Disappointment May 28, 2008
I can't remember the last time I was so disappointed in a book I picked up from the shelf. The theological framework of this book is identical to the horrific theology that underlies much of the theological drivel of John Piper. I have yet to meet a self-centered Christian who's only preoccupation is not going to hell. This reading of Christian faith is so foreign to my experience that I actually question whether or not these men are truly pastors. The whole Christian hedonism thing is one of the great modern apostacies alive in our Church and I can't understand why anyone would mix that heresy with fire and brimstone fundamentalism. We have a world where millions of Christians care nothing about poverty, social justice, or serving others. Yet these issues never cross the threshold of this book. Instead it seems to dwell on some notion of giving glory to God through...what? The main problem with Christian Hedonism is the fatal misreading of Scripture and this book if full of similar theological mis-steps. Sadly, there is a lot to be said about the premise of the book, about human creatures who see a world made to serve themselves, that will never be said because of the ineptitude of these men.
Lifechanging book.... Feb 27, 2008
I first heard Gerald Robison present the Cat & Dog Theology presentation 2 years ago at a Perspectives class at church. Since then I have had the pleasure of seeing it twice more and I have read the book. This is a book you want to read! It is a book to read because as a Christian in America, you really don't understand just how ME focused you are until it's laid out for you. The main premise is that we should focus on GOD'S glory, not our own comfort and pleasures. It also discusses how God is focused on His glory all throughout the Bible and spreading His glory to the nations, although we tend to skip over these passages when we're reading them because they're not about us. And it's true! I mean, Christ told us to DIE TO SELF. Do we really even know what that means?
I really don't understand the negative reviews of this book. Now, I'm not going to say that this book isn't convicting and hard to read at some parts, because it is. But you should read it for yourself and make your own decision.
Brilliant ministry that changed my life. Aug 30, 2007
I think one reviewer at least missed it completely. Their conclusion that Bob is asking us to choose Bottom line of the New Covenant verses over and against Top line of the covenant verses is the Opposite to what he is saying and teaching. Cat & Dog Theology is not about replacing verses, or ignoring Gods love, but rather it is about correcting a Major Error in the church - that of a self-centred Christianity that focuses on blessings only and ignored the Purposes of God. He repeatedly emphasises 'incomplete' not wrong ! Yes God loves us, and there are a million and one resources telling us so, but where are the other resources talking about the other half of the truth?? Bobs seminar which I attended in Singapore in 2002 Changed my Life forever - God Bless him. I recommend you listen to his Seminar series on this. Gods purpose in Blessing us is to Bless all nations through us - a timely message for our comlacent self-centred church. I was guilty of exactly these errors but since Bobs seminar God has turned me around and as I put Him first and His mission first, I have been more blessed than I would ever have been had I sought only the blessings. We seek God because he is GOD and our lives are centred on Him for Hsi own sake not for our sake. !
