Item description for Oops! Excuse Me! Please!: And Other Mannerly Tales by Bob McGrath, Tammie Lyon & Tammie Lyons...
Overview From one of the original hosts on the PBS Sesame Street program comes a series of twenty-eight hilariously illustrated scenes in which boys and girls deal with good manners, with each scene providing its own gentle moral.
Publishers Description A favorite personality from Sesame Street and the author of Barron's popular Uh, Oh Gotta Go potty training book has a brand new collection of amusing vignettes for kids. Oops Excuse Me, Please presents 28 humorously illustrated scenes showing boys and girls dealing with good manners. Like many good stories, each vignette has a gentle moral. For example, nobody is having fun at the playground swings, because everybody is pushing and forgetting to take turns--until Shelly yells out: "Taking turns works " Kids will recognize and identify with the scenes and situations right away. Elizabeth creates havoc and a real mess in the cafeteria when she pushes the girl in front of her and causes a spill. . . Outrageous behavior by Dick and Edmund at the movies makes it impossible for the people around them to enjoy the film. But kids can be polite too. Carla remembers to say "please," while trying on her tenth pair of new shoes . . . thoughtful Rosita gets a big smile from Dad while helping with the dinner dishes. . .and Will feels great after writing his first thank-you note to Aunt Meg. Learning manners is an important part of growing up, and the boys and girls who open this book will enjoy the stories, even as they receive gentle and good-natured reminders on what manners are all about.

Reviews - What do customers think about Oops! Excuse Me! Please!: And Other Mannerly Tales?
A surprise favorite Feb 26, 2008
I wasn't expecting great things from this book, most children's manners books aren't too whoopty. But my kids *choose* this book out of the whole pile, and they tell me the stories -- they relate what is happening in the picture and tell me what is right. I have been pleasantly surprised.
I think the pictures are what instructs the kids so well. I like that the book is not a collection of "shoulds" or "nevers" -- the text is very gentle and positive. For example, "Luke knows it's a big help to..." or "Ian remembers to ask..."
My previous favorite manners book had been Richard Scarry, but I think this one is even better.

Oops! Excuse Me! Please!: And Other Mannerly Tales
This is a great book to sit and read at the table. It offers preschoolers the opportunity to talk about their day and things that might have happened that they did or didn't like. It gives real life examples of situations children have to deal with and offers reasonable tools for them to use on the preschool level.
An excellent book for kids to read with their parents. May 4, 1998
Rather than discourage bad manners, this book encourages GOOD manners, thus reinforcing good behavior. It provides parents with the opportunity to discuss appropriate (and polite) behavior in various situations that children encounter at home and in public. It's a book that is sized for small hands, so children can hold it themselves and read it over and over again with Mom or Dad (or by themselves). It can be memorized by younger children (4-5) and read by older ones (6-8). Excellent and affordable, every family should read this book together.
