Reviews - What do customers think about Fire, Nitro, Rubber, and Smoke: Bob McClurg's Drag Racing Memories?
Best 'picture' book about drag racing. Mar 15, 2008
This book uses a format of pictures and extended captions, like Dave Friedman's "Trans-Am" series book. I found it much more satisfying than the minimal captions in Steve Reyes' books (which are irreplaceable, because of Steve's own photo library) or the Iconografix books.
The text aligns very closely with what I know or remember about the era, so I would bet that there aren't many errors in the information that I didn't previously know.
Like the other reviewer, I enjoyed the information about early RE dragsters. Similarly, I've never seen a color photo of Jim Dunn's RE Barracuda in blue before this.
The Way It Was Dec 6, 2007
McClurg's book is spectacular!!! Love the way the book flows, awesome photos from the various eras. Especially good with the early 1970's rear engine fuelers. First rate!
ANOTHER SUPERLATIVE EFFORT Feb 6, 2007
This book is superb, even surpassing McClurg's earlier tome. Lots of sharp color and black and white images. The book is divided into genres, like slingshots, gassers, etc. I'd have liked a few more fuel altered shots, but that's quibbling. It's an excellent book that you should make it your business to get.
