Community Description In this Christian music program, Bill and Gloria Gaither and their group of "Homecoming Friends" join forces to pay tribute to Southern gospel bass singer George Younce. A TRIBUTE TO GEORGE YOUNCE gathers rare interviews with the singer as well as many of his most beloved performances. A major player in the world of Southern gospel music, Younce spent much of his life (over 50 years, to be exact) entertaining church audiences with his impressively low bass vocals. This tribute includes performances by Younce and his co-founded Cathedrals Quartet including "This Old House," "Thanks to Cavalry," "Going Home," and many others.

More About Bill & Gloria Gaither and Their Homecomi
Gaither Homecoming Friends is the name applied to a series of videos, music recordings and concerts, which are organized, promoted and usually presented by Christian music songwriter and impresario Bill Gaither. To date, the Gaither Homecoming title is applied to more than 60 videos, dozens of music recordings, and an annual concert tour that drew more than half a million fans in 2004 (the most recent year for which statistics are available).
On February 19, 1991, the Gaither Vocal Band had just wrapped up a recording session in a Nashville, Tennessee, working on an album called Homecoming, which featured many of the great voices of southern gospel music: The Speers, the Gatlins, Jake Hess, The Cathedrals, Howard & Vestal Goodman, Buck Rambo, Eva Mae Lefevre, James Blackwood, Hovie Lister, Jim Hill, and J.D. Sumner & The Stamps. After the session, the artists stayed around to chat, swap stories and sing old standards around the piano. The impromptu session was recorded on video and later published. The recording was so well received that Gaither began a series of professionally-produced videos with larger gatherings of gospel musicians.
Today Bill & Gloria Gaither and their Homecoming Friends is a favorite staple of Gospel Music audiences around the world.

Reviews - What do customers think about A Tribute to George Younce?
Warmth, humor and a deep look into the heart of a simple, talented and humble man. Mar 5, 2006
If you're at the stage of life where the kids are grown and gone, and you're at the station in your Christian life where you are beginning to look forward to your final homecoming, you will treasure this presentation. My wife and I have watched it many times-alone and with friends-and we've bought copies that we've had sent to others.
I had never heard of George Younce before my mom introduced me to this DVD a few months ago. George passed on in April of 2005, and I hope against hope that someday I'll get to meet him.
This look at his life, his music, his humor and his heart is unforgettable. If you've lived the ups and downs of a committed Christian life over the last 20 or 30 years you will be touched deeply, and you will shed a few tears. You will also be entertained with laughter and the lyrics of unforgettable songs from the Old Time Gospel genre.

Bill Gaither does a good job with his tributes to fellow singers.
This one is exceptional but then so was the man. If you are a Gaither fan then this is a must for your library of DVD's.
