The principal author of the English/Spanish Foundations Series is Gladys Rosa-Mendoza. Gladys was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. As she grew up, she moved to different places for her father's work, including Puerto Rico, the Canal Zone (Panama), and Savannah, Georgia. From a very young age, she was exposed to English and Spanish language, and experienced the many benefits of early bilingual education.
Gladys attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and has spent her career creating award-winning books for students of all ages. She now lives in suburban Chicago with her husband and two (bilingual) children. When her children were in preschool, she found it hard to find good quality books in English and Spanish to teach her children both languages at once, and she was inspired to create the English/Spanish Foundations Series.
The series has won 3 Latino Literacy Awards, the Benjamin Franklin Award, Book and Media award, and 7 Writer's Digest Certificate of Merit Awards.
Gladys Rosa-Mendoza currently resides in Wheaton Wheaton Wheaton Whea.
