Based on a real lie Jun 9, 2008
A very boring story about a seemingly very vengeful woman. We all make mistakes in life, and try to learn from it. But Betty Mahmoody is making money out of it but making up a story in which she portrayes herself as the victim. I watched this woman complaining on the Dr. Phil show recently, still sobbing and feeling sorry for herself and at the same time promoting her book and trying to squeeze the last couple of bucks out of her story. Thanks to the Finish documentary `Without my daughter' which shows us what really happened we now know that this book is just one big lie. Maybe they don't show you these documentaries in the US, I'm sure your government would like you to believe that all women are suppressed in countries like Iran. Do not buy this book, don't buy the DVD. Dishonesty should not be rewarded.

Exellent Book, Exellent author Aug 2, 2000
After reading Not without my daughter for Betty Mahmoudy, I was chocked ! because i discovered the real story of the pain of women, and because of her, i am now reading all stories about women who are living in pain. i find this book exellent and i encourage every woman to read it!
Spiteful, xenophobic trash. Dec 15, 1999
An absolutely worthless book. I shudder to think of the reaction of bigots who will fall for the propaganda in this book. The first movie with Sally Field was bad enough, maybe now they'll make a trashy mini-series. That's what garbage like this is suited for. Save your money.
Too Bad Aug 12, 1999
Too bad this family has suffered. But I think the suffering came from all sides. There is revenge and control and threats. What about the threat of the wife to divorce the husband before she went to Iran? He was trying to protect his daughter. It is his daughter too. The wife had other failure in marriage too and didn't even have her kids from her other marriage. Maybe there is a good reason the husband wanted to get his daughter away from America and Betty. I think it is a bad thing for the girl Mahtob. She will probably not ever know the truth.
