Item description for Fruit Tramps by Bertha Walsh...

Fruit Tramps tells the story of the Walling family as they travelled across America seeking work as migrant laborers. Calling to mind Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath, the poignent storytelling will deeply involve you in the family's quest for a better life. The author's reminescences are full of details regarding a time in American history that many may regard as part of a more innocent past; when simple joys were richer, tragedies were faced more stoically, and a faith in God's wisdom was a comfort in the face of adversity.

Reviews - What do customers think about Fruit Tramps?

wonderful book  Apr 10, 2008
What a great American story, if you are interested in life during the depresion, you will love this book. Bertha tells her story of growing up and includes tons of pictures of family members. Not only do you read about her family but you can visualize who they are. This book is worth the price and should be required reading for students on the 20's and 30's in America or at least in central california.
