Reviews - What do customers think about Getting Free!: How to Overcome Persistent Personal Problems?
Good book.... needs more practical implementation ideas Mar 8, 2006
"Getting Free" is about overcoming persistent spiritual personal problems. The book offers a guideline to follow to help overcome problems that we attempt to rid ourselves of, but find ourselves falling back into the old habits again and again.
Author Bert Ghezzi states that to overcome persistent personal problems, we need to rely on the Holy Spirit, not our own power. While this certainly sounds simple, to put it into practice is an entirely different story. However Ghezzi does a fairly good job of explaining exactly how to go about doing that. He suggests praying for the Holy Spirit to take control of the problem, focus on the good happening in your life, not just the bad, and feeding your mind with good thoughts rather than evil thoughts.
I was also quite impressed with Ghezzi's definitions of the "Flesh" and the "Spirit". He defines "flesh" as "the element in us which prevents us from obeying God's law or involves us in some wrongdoing against others". The "Spirit" is defined as "the presence of God dwelling in the members of the new humanity".
The only down side to this book would be the lack of practice application advice. Techniques or direction to resources for improving your thought patterns, making more time to read the Bible, etc, would have been welcome.
Regardless, "Getting Free" is a great book for the Christian reader. I highly recommend it, regardless if you feel you have personal persistent problems or not. 4 out of 5 stars.
The Best Nov 9, 2002
The book I've been looking for for so long. No matter what problems you have the answer is easy....trust in Jesus. Let Him carry you in His arms. Trust in His goodness and "expect Jesus to conquer your problems."
That's the summary of this brief, inspiring, easy to ready book.
I just don't really like the Preface, but everything is 100% simple and amazing...
