Item description for The Holy Bible: King James Version by Barry Moser...
Virtuoso book designer and illustrator Barry Moser, many of whose masterpieces are already museum-housed modern classics, devoted nearly five years to the greatest book project of all-a hand-crafted, designed, and illustrated Bible to be published in a special 400-copy limited edition. Now, Viking Studio is proud to make this work of art and devotion available to a broader public in a paperback edition. The Pennyroyal Caxton edition of The Holy Bible is lovingly designed and simply set in black type, subtly accented with red. But its revolutionary impact lies in its illustrations-haunting, sometimes dark but always luminous, described by Newsweek as "engravings with the brooding power of magical realism." No connoisseur of great art or spiritual reader will want to be without this edition. It is a rich heirloom gift for holidays, holy days, and every day.

Reviews - What do customers think about The Holy Bible: King James Version?
Excellent Bible Jun 15, 2008
I first saw this bible in the hotel last year and was hit with the powerful images. This is defeinitely the best bible that I have seen and I bought copies for my sister and boss. KJV without the verses makes the Bile an excellent read. The illustrations really made me think about the passages. I love it.
great paperback Dec 3, 2007
Moser's wood engravings make this edition of the King James Bible a treasure. Beyond the fact that the paper binding is flimsy, anyone would love to own this edition. I plan to rebind the book using leather for a cover with a Coptic stich for the binding. This will make the book a family heirloom. Some say the engravings are dark; but much of the Bible deals with dark subject matter. However, here we see a human Christ in the prints not some Nordic mythological rendition. My favorite print pictures Paul in prison feeding the rats. I only wish I had the money to afford the limited edition with its signed original prints .
An Amazing Work of Art Feb 20, 2005
This Bible is simply beautiful. I stumbled onto it through this site's Recommendations. The beauty of the King James Version's Jacobean English is unparalleled, and the masterful illustrations by Barry Moser make the text come alive in your hands. This is a book which can easily become a family heirloom. The text has no verse divisions and reads more comfortably as a continuous flow. The large print, the drop caps and the rich illustrations go along with the large format to give a very classical, meaty feel to this gorgeous work of art. It's a beautiful way to display and enjoy God's Word.
The Hardback version is out of print, and I got a superb deal on one from one of this site's used booksellers.
Best Bible Around Sep 13, 2004
This is the most beautiful Bible I have ever seen. I had the opportunity to take a class on the Bible as Art co-taught by Barry Moser, and he is a man of tremendous talent and intellect. Why they ever decided to remainder this book, I do not know, but it is truly a loss to everyone.
WOW Mar 5, 2004
I can't seem to put this book down. I'm consistently surprised by the images. They are all original pieces of art unlike tradional depictions of biblical events. They all have something unique about them. A perfect complement to the poetry of the King James version. This is the best book I own.
