Reviews - What do customers think about The Outdoor Bible King James Version New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs?
This book REALLY IS waterproof. Some young readers and I TESTED it! Mar 6, 2008
First of all, there really isn't much to say about the text of this book. It's the venerable King James Version of the New Testament, Pslams and Proverbs. Many people prefer newer English translations that are easier to read -- but for devotional purposes, millions still appreciate this version of the sacred text. Personally, I prefer the KJV cadence when enjoying Pslams. Some of that classic poetry is lodged deep in our collective consciousness -- like lines from Shakespeare.
The real question here is: So, what about this claim that the book is waterproof?
It REALLY IS! And I know it's true because I teach a high-school-aged Sunday school class, which recently reviewed a number of new spiritual books with me. When this title came up -- naturally teenagers wanted to road test the book.
Several times we doused the book under the full force of a faucet -- and even swirled it around in the water -- probably far more water than a book is likely to encounter if you're caught in a rainstorm while hiking or camping.
Sure enough, the water rolled right off the pages. We used a towel to speed up the process -- but, pretty much, balancing the book upright allows water to flow out of the binding. Very quickly, it's completely dry.
A note in the front cover explains that the pages, which feel like high-quality white paper, are actually 100-percent plastic. An additional note says that the book won't be hurt even if it freezes, while wet! (You've got to thaw it before turning the pages, the note says -- but I love the durability!)
I enjoy spending devotional time on the deck behind our house, which is surrounded by trees, bushes and flowers for much of the year. But leaving devotional materials on the deck is always a danger. Occasionally, we get unexpected showers. Well, this book solves that problem for me.
