Reviews - What do customers think about Grace on the Go: Quick Prayers for Determined Dieters (Grace on the Go)?
A Winner for "Losers" Aug 7, 2008
Many of us strive to be successful losers (we're talking about weight). Barb Bartocci has given those who struggle with weight management a handy tool in order to keep on target. Her Grace on the Go for Determined Dieters, in which she addresses this issue with compassion and understanding, contains practical advice, a strong spiritual element, and humor. Who can't relate to, "my new goal is to weigh what my driver's license says"! This small paperback, which can easily be tucked into a handbag or briefcase, offers relevant selections from scripture and prayerful support. I pull it out during breaks in my daily schedule and have found it helpful to read while waiting for my weight loss meeting to begin. Sharing inspirational passages and witty remarks from Ms. Bartocci's book is a unique way to contribute in organized group discussions. The author doesn't recommend any specific program but offers creative and inspired aids for a "weighty" problem.
My dog-eared little book May 7, 2008
I've enjoyed Barbara Bartocci's "Grace on the Go: 101 Quick Ways to Pray" so when I saw her new title, I knew I'd have to have it. I lost 75 pounds eleven years ago, but most of it has crept back. As I begin to face the music and begin again, I have a new helper--Barbara's "Grace on the Go: Quick Prayers for Determined Dieters". I have read it through and have already dog-eared a few pages that I will get back to as I need to...and I'll need to! The dog-eared pages have prayers, such as for Options, Portion Control, Moderation and, my favorite, "A Prayer for an Exercise Dropout" that ends with, "...If I cannot immediately soar with eagles' wings, let me at least march with a penguin's steadfastness." That's just what I need for starters!
Real help for real people May 1, 2008
Barbara's book is like spiritual snack food--a mouthful of prayer instead of a mouthful of something else. Ten years ago I lost 50 pounds. I've managed to keep it off (so far), but that takes real dedication. Now I have Barbara's book for ongoing inspiration.
Grace on the Go:Quick Prayers for Determinged Dieters Apr 21, 2008
Books and articles on dieting and for dieters are pervasive on bookstore shelves in our "looking good" society. I think Barbara Bartocci is brave to add yet another. "Grace on the Go" is different. Not many think to add a spiritual component to the dieting effort. This small book is a tidy collection of reflections, stories and prayers for those of us who fight weight issues on a daily basis. Tuck it in a purse, pocket or backpack. It isn't meant to sit on a shelf or counter. I like it for its practicality and on-the-spot inspiration. I don't need to be preached at but to be supported for dieting. This does the trick!
