Historical, Evangelical and Enlightening Aug 15, 2007
Barbara Smith's debut work is crafted with excellence and under the obvious anointing of the Holy Ghost. Although this piece is non-fiction, the beginning chapters flow as though they were pages from a murder-mystery novel. In the first half, Smith painstakingly chronicles a conspiracy concocted between King David's nephew and his son, the heir to the throne, Amnon. The pair's treachery leads to the heinous rape of King David's daughter, Tamar, by her own lust-drunken brother. Smith takes readers on a journey into the mindset of the victim, the perpetrators and other family members. Ashes, illustrates how sin can be passed down from generation to generation.
A registered nurse by day-trade, Smith provides readers not only with historical facts and events, but with clinical explanations of the sufferings felt by rape victims as she has personally witnessed many times over.
The second half of the book offers soothing spiritual balm and the reassurance that anyone who accepts the love of Jesus Christ can be healed and redeemed.
This book is highly recommended as a tool for victims and perpetrators seeking deliverance and reformation.
