Item description for Gods Word Text Burgundy Bonded by Baker Books...
Translated directly from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts, GOD’S WORD Translation (GW) uses a linguistic translation method similar to the one used by missionary translators throughout the world today. Unlike other Bibles, the translation theory used to produce GOD’S WORD is different because the theory and practice of translation has advanced through the years. As a result, it reads more easily, is more accurate, and communicates the intended meaning of the Bible more clearly and naturally than any other English translation.
In producing GOD’S WORD, the translators sought to find the closest natural equivalent to the original texts. The first consideration for the translators was to find equivalent English ways of expressing the meaning of the original text. This procedure ensured that the translation is faithful to the meaning intended by the original writer. Next, they considered readability. The translators expressed the meaning of the text in natural American English by using common English punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and word choice. Finally, they sought to use the natural equivalent that most closely reflects the style of the Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek text. This translation theory is designed to avoid the awkwardness and inaccuracy associated with form-equivalent translation, and it avoids the loss of meaning and oversimplification associated with function equivalent translation.
Features include an index of The Teachings of Jesus, an Application Index, and a Dictionary/Concordance.

Reviews - What do customers think about Gods Word Text Burgundy Bonded?
Great to have Jul 6, 2009
This bible is great. Easy to read and understand. I referd it to a friend and she is going to buy it. I think it would be great for kids too.
Very Good Apr 8, 2009
Another great addition to the other Bibles available. I have 2 others and like to compare them. As for the navigation, I don't see the problem. The great thing about the Kindle is that you type what you are looking for in the search field and it will take you there. No need to keep hitting the page forward button. Not sure if some of you are aware of this feature. I typed in Psalms 21 and it took me right to it.
Extremely Poor Navigation Apr 4, 2009
I will not review the content or translation of this Bible. To do so for me would be hubris. However, I will state that the navigation for this Bible is incredibly poor. This Bible will allow you to navigate to the first page of a book for example, but NOT to a chapter.
For example, should you want to read Psalms 121, you would be able to navigate to Psalms 1, but from there, you would need to keep pressing "next page" until you got to the 121st chapter- This is incredibly tedious and time consuming and a very poor method of navigating. Other Kindle version Bibles I own, such as Holy Bible, Today's New International Version, TNIV which is also free, Holy Bible, New Living Translation, or Holy Bible, New International Version, NIV, will take me to the first page of the Book I want, then provide links to the chapters, and some then provide a link to the specific verse- (I would STRONGLY recommend the others I mentioned).
Although I am in favor of Bible reading for reading's sake, I would venture to say that the majority who will use a Bible are using it to find a specific verse or chapter, to study or to follow in a sermon, or for general knowledge.
This Bible is totally inadequate for that purpose and therefore I rate this at the lowest possible rating allowed.
Poor Navigation ... Apr 2, 2009
Though the translation might be OK, the navigation in this Kindle edition is very poor. From the TOC you can ONLY navigate to the beginning of the book (chapter 1) ... After that, you are on your own. There is no other chapter or verse navigation at all ... not good, and I do not recommend.
Awsome! Feb 7, 2009
I've had many versions of the Bible and I have to say this is the one I will go to now. It is written in easy (current language) with out being so loose it's hippy sounding like "The Message." Wonderfully researched, sticking close to the greek and hebrew translations.
