More About Baker Publishing Group
Baker Publishing Group is an Evangelical Christian book publisher based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It has six main divisions: Bethany House, Revell, Baker Books, Baker Academic, Chosen and Brazos Press.
The company was founded in 1939, by Herman Baker. The company has published of Christian books that discuss many issues, from family life to theology, within a broadly evangelical framework. Baker publishes books and ministry resources for pastors and church leaders, concentrating on topics such as preaching, worship, pastoral ministries, counseling and leadership. Baker also publishes for lay Christians on topics such as discipleship, spirituality, encouragement, relationships, marriage, parenting and the intersection of Christianity and culture.
Bethany House - has been publishing high quality books for more than 50 years, and has over 1,100 titles spanning nearly every reading category. Recognized as the pioneer and leader in Christian fiction, we publish many of the top names in historical and contemporary romance, Amish and Mennonite fiction, romantic suspense, and many other fiction subgenres. Our nonfiction encompasses a variety of subjects, including Christian living, family resources, theology, heaven, and many more. Offering inspiration and encouragement to readers through story and spiritual insight, Bethany House titles frequently appear on Christian bestseller lists.
Revell - began over 125 years ago when D. L. Moody and his brother-in-law Fleming H. Revell saw the need for practical books that would help bring the Christian faith to everyday life. From there, Fleming H. Revell Publishing developed consistently solid lists that included many notable Christian writers over the years. This same vision for books that are both inspirational and practical continues to motivate the Revell publishing group today. Whether publishing fiction, Christian living, self-help, marriage, family, or youth books, each Revell publication reflects relevance, integrity, and excellence.
Baker Books - has a vision for building up the body of Christ through books that are relevant, intelligent, and engaging. We publish titles for lay Christians on topics such as discipleship, spirituality, encouragement, relationships, marriage, parenting, and the intersection of Christianity and culture. We also publish books and ministry resources for pastors and church leaders, concentrating on topics such as preaching, worship, pastoral ministries, counseling, and leadership.
Baker Academic - serves the academy and the church by publishing works that further the pursuit of knowledge and understanding within the context of Christian faith. Building on our Reformed and evangelical heritage, we connect authors and readers across the broader academic community by publishing books that reflect historic Christianity and its contemporary expressions. Our authors are scholars who are leaders in their fields, write irenically, and display a healthy respect for other perspectives and traditions. Our goal is to publish books that are notable for their inherent quality and deemed essential reading by students and scholars.
Ever since the 1971 publication of The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom, Chosen Books has been publishing powerful books that help millions to live the Spirit-filled life. Attracting evangelicals and charismatics, professionals and laypersons, books published by Chosen help believers to better know and love the Lord Jesus Christ, to pray about the concerns that are on God's heart, to be empowered by his Spirit for ministry, to fulfill the Great Commission, and to transform their communities and their world. Several hundred titles over more than thirty years, from Charles Colson's Born Again to Cindy Jacobs' Possessing the Gates of the Enemy, reflect the publishing goal of Chosen Books: to publish well-crafted books that recognize the gifts and ministry of the Holy Spirit and help readers live more empowered and effective lives for Jesus Christ. Challenged by the written word, these hungry readers are joining the incredible adventure of what God is doing in the world.
Brazos Press - fosters the renewal of classical, orthodox Christianity by publishing thoughtful, theologically grounded books on subjects of importance to the church and the world. We serve authors and readers from all major streams of the historic Christian tradition, recognizing that the renewal of Christian orthodoxy transcends many traditional boundary lines and polarities.

Reviews - What do customers think about GOD'S WORD Large Print Text Burgundy Bonded?
Very solid Bible... Jul 3, 2006
In our modern "age" of mass printing and synthetic materials the great bulk of our Bibles have turned into shoddy paper backs or imitation leathers that should never have left the conceptual stages. A good quality hardback Bible with cloth or leather covered boards is even harder to find than it was 10 years ago. With this anything but cheery introduction you may be expecting me to bemoan the woes of this present Bible. If you guessed this, you would be wrong. Green Key Books have produced a fine set of Bibles, with the Large Print Compact edition being my personal favorite.
This large print compact Bible has an imitation leather cover that should make other publishers that use imitation leathers stand up and take notice. It is very "floppy", bends well, and does not stress fracture. To top this off, the imitation leather is amazingly soft, almost to the point of feeling like an over oiled calfskin. Very impressive. The end-sheets inside the cover are very heavy, thick, and almost feel like a type of rubber (though, I believe, they aren't). These end sheets should last for quite some time while constantly opening and closing your Bible. Other publishers, unfortunately, seem to prefer to use kid's construction paper for end sheets, none of that here. The cover and the text block are very well established together.
The spine width on this Bible is much larger than on Bibles with similar length and width measurements. The Bible has a nice heft to it, and fills your hand well, but remains light enough to easily "one hand" the Bible. The spine, though wide, shows no signs of stress fracturing. Pages are sewn in on this Bible (evidenced by nylon threads in signatures), so the text block should maintain it's integrity for quite some time. The paper used is thin and the opacity is about on par with other Bibles (though the paper is thicker than many other Bibles, and has an almost "egg shell" surface). The font used is nice and large (probably about 11 or 12 point) and very dark. There is no variance in the ink levels per signature. The pages "crinkle" where they meet the spine, but it is very minor. Also, there is a ribbon which is not stiff and can be used quite well for marking your place in your Bible. Of course, the page edges are gilded (appears to be spray on, which is adequate, but fades long before "pressed" gilded pages).
This Bible is in single column format, which some will love and others will hate. Fortunately, due to the Bible dimensions technically being "compact" and large print, the line length of an individual line on a page is kept to a minimum and the eyes do not become stressed, unlike some other single column Bibles which smash as many as 20-40 words per line. Other features of this Bible include a teachings of Jesus appendix and an Application index for applying what the Bible teaches. Footnotes inform you when alternative textual sources have been used, alternative renderings have been chosen, of a doubtful source text, and explanatory notes of terms.
Finally, this Bible, as with all other Green Key Bibles, utilizes the God's Word Translation of the Holy Bible. This translation attempts to remain accurate while also being readable, and to be readable while also remaining accurate. The translators of the GW Translation used a method of translation that they have chosen to call "closest natural English equivalency". Whether this ideal has been realized is subject to personal opinion. However, the translation remains smart, does not use a limited vocabulary and aspires to translate passages according to their intended difficulty (e.g., they attempted to not "dumb down" or "make appropriate" books that were not clearly written to be so. The translators state that Ephesians is not an easy book to understand, and they have not tried to dumb it down.) As with anything else in translation, whether they met these goals is subject to personal opinion. Also, the translation is intended for all ages.
