Item description for Baby Einstein:Meet the Orchestra by Baby Einstein...

Not since PETER AND THE WOLF has there been a more fun way for kids to learn about classical music. Enthusiastic narrators Julie Aigner-Clarke and Beth Anne Garrison take listeners on an aural tour of the various instrumental sections of the orchestra. They also provide examples of several classical formats, from solo artist, to duet, and on incrementally to full orchestra. Part of the wildly popular Baby Einstein series, MEET THE ORCHESTRA provides a useful musical education for babies and toddlers, and may prove to be educational for their care-givers as well.

Reviews - What do customers think about Baby Einstein:Meet the Orchestra?

Baby videos are not good for babies  Sep 24, 2009
Parents please be aware that many studies show that the more television children under five watch the less likely they are to engage in creative play. (DVDS being basically the same thing as TV ).

Dimitri Christakis the director of the Child Health Institute at the University of Washington quoted in the book Parenting Inc, states: "Based on the research I have done there is reason to believe these products (DVDs for babies and toddlers) have a deleterious (negative) effect on the developing mind"

Another quote, again from Parenting Inc." "There is no research to show that watching a screen is beneficial to a baby in any way, educational or otherwise. If anything it may be putting babies at risk" "A two dimensional screen can never replace a real environment, rich in all five senses. Holistic play is what develops the all the pathways to the brain." Alvin Poussaint, child psychiatrist and director of the Media Center of Judge Baker's Children Center in Boston.

"A 2005 study of 1200 children published in Archives of Pediatrics found that children who watch TV before the age of three have lower cognitive scores at age seven." Again from Parenting Inc by Pamela Paul.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under two be kept away from screen media.

Please think twice about buying DVDS for a baby or toddler. Do the research, it's not a good idea. Stick to the old fashioned toys that engage kids in creative play - blocks, balls etc.
Entertaining for 4 year old  Sep 17, 2009
After checking this CD out from the library twice, my 4 year old granddaughter continued to ask me to play "the orchestra CD". It provides a great introduction to the individual instruments in an orchestra.
genious :-)   Feb 24, 2009
I love all the Baby Einstein videos and so does my niece who I got it for :-)
Baby Einstein  Jan 17, 2009
