Item description for Axel Hutte: Towards the Wood by Axel Hutte...
Axel Hutte's Reflections are, in a way, an advanced version of his jungle photographs. One day, looking through hislens, he detected the upright reflection of a person on the dark green surface of the water. Working with a plate-back camera, he usually sees the world upside down--the camera turned the updise down reflection over again. Fascinated by this experience, Axel Hutte created the series presented in this volume. Based on simple optophysical principles, eh produces bewildering pictures that play with perceptual puzzlement and the confusion of our sesne. Though the surface we see is real--Hutte doesn't use digital editing--the flickering of leaves or broken-up ice lends the iamges a strangely surreal, dreamlike quality, as if removed from reality.
