Item description for A. W. Pink's Studies In The Scriptures - 1930-1931, Vol 5 of 17 Volumes by Arthur W. Pink...

Pink published Studies In The Scriptures, a monthly magazine, for 33 years. The accumulated writings total over 10,000 pages before his death. Now for the first time ever, Sovereign Grace Publishers, Inc. is reproducing the entire 33 year magazine set in seventeen volumes complete with a full index in the seventeenth volume. Most volumes contain two complete years except volumes eight and nine which each contain 18 months of the magazine. Nearly all of Pinks' books now in print are taken from those magazines. He took the subjects issue by issue until he completed his writing. In his expository works, he would expound on a book for years (7 years on Hebrews alone), writing a portion each month. His Hebrews is a great compendium of all the excellent thoughts on that book of the Bible through the ages. Pink preached in many places in the world before he retired to a remote part of Scotland, where he concentrated on his monthly magazine, and taught some 100 men by mail, including Jay Green Sr., the founder of Sovereign Grace Publishers. He ia a very able expositor, one who breaks new ground, yet adheres to age-proven theology. Do not expect to read the usual comments on these passages of Scripture. Pink was an origianl thinker, and he called no man master, but sought his views of the Scripture directly from His Lord and Master, Jesus Christ through prayer, and through comparing Scripture with Scripture until he gained understanding. The result is some controversial statements here and there. Questions from Andrew Fuller, Thomas Goodwin and John Brown of Edinburgh are very helpful also. It is one of Pink's strongest points, that he knew when and how to quote from other great writers. In the Lord's Prayer, Pink argues for the continued use of this form of prayer. No one can say that Pink was in any sense a ritualist. His questions from Manton, Gill, Perkins, etc. very much enhance the value of these Studies. The thoughts are pure and holy, the very kind of reading that

More About Arthur W. Pink

Arthur W. Pink Arthur Walkington Pink was born in Nottingham, England on 1 April 1886 and became a Christian in 1908, at the age of 22. Though born to Christian parents, prior to conversion he migrated into a Theosophical society (the occult gnostic group which became precursor of the New Age movement, popular in England during that time), and quickly rose in prominence within their ranks. His conversion came from his father's patient admonitions from Scripture. It was the verse, Proverbs 14:12, 'there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death,' which particularly struck his heart and compelled him to renounce Theosophy and follow Jesus.

Desiring to grow in knowledge of the Bible, Pink emigrated to the United States to study at Moody Bible Institute. He left there after only two months and began his first pastorate in Silverton, Colorado. In 1916 he married Vera E. Russell (8 January 1893 – 17 July 1962), who was from Kentucky. However, he left after just two months for Colorado, then California, then Britain. From 1925 to 1928 he served in Australia, including as pastor of two congregations from 1926 to 1928, when he returned to England, and to the United States the following year. He eventually pastored churches in Colorado, California, Kentucky, and South Carolina.

In January 1922 he started a monthly magazine entitled Studies in the Scriptures. Its relatively small circulation list of around 1,000 included English-speaking Christians worldwide and became the basis of most of his published books.

In 1934 Pink returned to England, and within a few years turned his Christian service to writing books and pamphlets. Moving to the Isle of Lewis, Scotland, in 1940, Pink died of anemia in Stornoway, Scotland on 15 July 1952.

After Pink's death, his works were republished by a number of publishing houses, among them, Banner of Truth Trust, Baker Book House, Christian Focus Publications, Moody Press, Truth for Today, and reached a much wider audience as a result. Biographer Iain Murray observes of Pink, "the widespread circulation of his writings after his death made him one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the twentieth century." His writing sparked a revival of expository preaching and focused readers' hearts on biblical living. Pink is left out of many biographical dictionaries and overlooked in many religious histories.

Arthur W. Pink was born in 1886 and died in 1952.
