Reviews - What do customers think about Nearer: Essays?
Witty, wonderful essays May 9, 2006
There is much at work in Nearer.
Use your hands to find an unyielding grip, work your fingers in, and open the pages. Each bristling line of text, crackling and electric, offers a climb into linguistic height and play.
There are examinations of everyday existence, and there are explorations of the larger things, the dizzying levels of magnitude, that resound in even the most quotidian of moments.
There is a dedicated mind at work here, yearning, searching, stretching. There is wit and warmth and there is darkness, too.
This book is all of these things, but it is, more than anything else, a love letter to language. The passion for and interplay with letters in Nearer make for an adventurous, risky climb-one whose reward, by the final, ringing line of the book, is the ineffable sensation of reading something you know will be with you long after the pages have been closed.
Beautifully written essays convey wide range of emotions Apr 10, 2006
The author's writings display his keen wit, intelligence and extraordinary insight into our thought processes. Extremely enjoyable and entertaining essays on a wide variety of subjects. Many are very touching and sensitive and others make you laugh out loud at the satirical descriptions of people and events. Highly recommended reading for all.
