Publishers Description For years, cardiologist Arthur Agatston, M.D., urged his patients to lose weight for the sake of their hearts, but every diet was too hard to follow or its restrictions were too harsh. Some were downright dangerous. Nobody seemed to be able to stick with low-fat regiments for any length of time. And a diet is useless if you can't stick with it. So Dr. Agatston developed his own. "The South Beach Diet" isn't complicated and doesn't require that you go hungry. You'll enjoy normal size helpings of meat, poultry, and fish. You'll also eat eggs, cheese, nuts, and vegetables. Snacks are required. You'll learn to avoid the bad carbs, like white flour, white sugar, and baked potatoes. Best of all, as you lose weight, you'll lose that stubborn belly fat "first" Dr. Agatston's diet has produced consistently dramatic results (8 to 13 pounds lost in the first 2 weeks ) and has become a media sensation in South Florida. Now you, too, can join the ranks of the fit and fabulous with "The South Beach Diet."
From The Book Jacket
"Dr. Agatston is a noted cardiologist who's made many contributions, but The South Beach Diet may be his best. Importantly, this is not 'another diet book.' This is a book about health and well-being. Dr. Agatston does an outstanding job of explaining the importance of the types of food we eat and its impact on preventing illnesses, such as coronary heart disease and diabetes. Not only will you feel better if you follow his diet, but you will look and live better." --Randolph P. Martin, M.D., director of noninvasive cardiology at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta
When renowned cardiologist Arthur Agatston, M.D., set out to develop a safe diet for his chronically overweight heart patients, he didn't expect to become a media star in South Florida. But news of his patients' dramatic successes soon spread far beyond the confines of his practice. Strangers started calling to ask for a copy of the diet, and local news began featuring stories of its popularity. Soon, the South Beach Diet was a bona fide craze in Miami.
And no wonder. South Beach dieters lose 8 to 13 pounds in the first 2 weeks without feeling hungry. Dr. Agatston's plan allows you to eat the foods you love--meat and fish, cheese, healthy oils and nuts, vegetables, and the right carbohydrates and sweets. There's no mandatory exercise, and best of all, you'll lose that stubborn belly fat first.

South Beach Diet Cookbook Dec 16, 2008
This book has literally turned my life around. I never realized there were so many "good and healthy" choices. I have tried many things I never though of and loved them. The best part is I have lost 28 pounds in the process.
Love this book! Nov 9, 2008
My Dr. suggested this diet to me after coming to him several times with no luck on other diets. So far, I've lost 15 1/2 pounds and I've only been on the diet 3 weeks.
The diet is not for everyone. ALWAYS check with your family doctor first. If your Doctor ok's it and you follow what the author says and keep in close contact with your doctor. You can lose weight and be healthy.

An Eye Opener Oct 22, 2008
The South Beach Diet is a great guide to developing healthy eating habits for life. It is educational delving into the history of diet and nutrition in America. Not only that, it answers thought provoking questions like why am I so hungry when I just ate... The South Beach Diet will help you to stop overeating and gain control of your health if you take it to heart.
You lose the CRAVINGS ! Good time to stop bad habits Oct 14, 2008
First, I am not a dieter! I never believed in that, but for a short stature, and midlife, my weight was at a standstill after lots of walking daily. I needed to lose at least 15 pounds, possibly 20.
Hubby, on the other hand, was the first to diet, since he has trouble walking fast or great distance. I figured this is the most efficient method for him to lose stomach fat! He effectively needed to lose 20 pounds to be more physically fit for age and health.
The South Beach Diet was our choice, and when I saw that he made a change in his life, lost about 20 pounds in few months, I accidently started to lose weight too. Simply because I was cautious of cooking or buying foods he could not have. This is about predominatly losing the stomach fat in men. As for women, you lose it in the hips, butt, and thighs.
Make a lifestyle change The book is wonderful in educating you on the safety, health, history of the prescribed changes for dieting. It is easy without measuring, counting calories, or starving.
Lose the Cravings! Good time to stop bad habits. I sit at a desk and stare into a computer all day, and nibbling always gets into the act, Chinese crackers, that once in a while nutbar, lots of fruit. That was what consisted of most of my nibblings. So I did have control, but on the diet, you do LOSE the CRAVINGS, just as the book says. My goal is to eat effectively without gaining the cravings. And, if you are on the diet for weeks at a time, on or off, it may be a good time to stop any bad eating habits.
Recipes, lists, and more There are plenty of recipes for that lifestyle change. The book also effectively lists the foods to avoid/or lessen in your lifetime, and the Foods to Avoid/Foods to Have in phases 1 and 2.
If I hadn't seen this work before my own eyes, I would not have believed it.....Rizzo
