Apostle Paul in prison Oct 7, 2008
I, PAUL (1980) directed by Domenic Arbusto approx. 24 minutes
While in prison, the Apostle Paul produced writings which would later constitute nearly half of the books of the New Testament. The last of these texts is known as "2 Timothy" or the Second Epistle to Timothy. In this book Paul gives instructions on how to persist in the face of adversity and forward the cause of the Christian church. He describes many of the difficulties he has encountered and problems in the world including corruption and infidelity. It is as much a message to Timothy as it is for Christians today.
This video production simply shows Paul speaking in his cell. There are rats and dark walls and the only other humans in the video look like they are nearly dead (they don't have speaking parts). It doesn't sound like it would be very exciting, but once you have opened yourself to the atmosphere of the movie it is a very stirring depiction. Fred Scollay plays Paul very well, giving an emotional cadence to the words. This would probably be a good tool for youth groups. Not the most uplifting Bible movie, but it definitely offers a peek at what one of the most successful apostles went through.
"It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself." 2 Timothy 2: 11-13
