Reviews - What do customers think about Sky & Telescope's Field Map of the Moon?
Designed For Use In The Field Jan 16, 2008
Both versions of this map are drawn by Antonin Rukl whose Atlas of the Moon in book form is currently the gold standard for readily available paper lunar atlases. While the scale is smaller here, the amount of detail will be sufficient for the vast majority of telescopic observers.
But what distinguishes these maps is how well they're designed. Laminated, folding in quarters and just about the perfect size, it's plain that Sky Publishing meant these to be practical and rugged.
Also, two very nice touches. The lunar surface features are repeated where the map folds so no details are lost "in the ditch". And each map quadrant shows the libration zones.
This map is excellent.
Moon Map Feb 24, 2007
I have both Field Maps of the Moon. This one is as you see the moon with binoculars and the other is "mirror image" for telescopes. Both are excellent, high quality maps that are laminated to keep off dew. The illustration of the moon is superb and the map folds in four quadrants for easy handling and space saving in the field. Directions on how to use the map and hundreds of features are listed with their coordinates so you can easily find them. An excellent tool for moon lovers.
Handy Moon Map for field use Dec 21, 2006
This map is laminated to protect it from dew, which makes it ideal for field use while observing. It has a large format, yet it folds into quarters, which makes it easier to carry and use while observing. While not as detailed as a lunar atlas, it's a good choice for new amateur astronomers, teachers, or anybody who is interested in the moon, and space.
