Item description for Art of The Lesser Sundas by Anthony F. Granucci...
Presenting for the first time over 150 artefacts from the authors private collection, this book offers a rare glimpse into an area of art history and prehistory which has hitherto been insufficiently explored and underappreciated. The richly illustrated text traces the origins of artefacts from the Lesser Sund islands east of Bali, back to the time when the islands were first inhabited by mankind, before establishing them firmly in their historical and cultural context. Providing invaluable insight into the beginnings of what is popularly known as Oceanic art, this volume is essential for anyone interested in art history, archaeology or Indonesian culture.

Reviews - What do customers think about Art of The Lesser Sundas?
Art Of Island Southeast Asia (Indonesia) Jul 22, 2008
212 Pages, Hardback, 11.5" x9.75". 146 items in full color, 4 maps. Art from the islands of Indonesia from the collection of Anthony F. Granucci. A fine book, on good quality paper with well photographed items. I'd rate the book @ 3.5 stars, the only issue I have is the quality of the items depicted - IMHO only a third or so of the objects are really notable. Lots of pretty looking amulets, armbands, bracelets, earrings etc., and not enough of the strong primitive art I would like to see. Having said this, there just aren't enough books in print focusing on the art of the Indonesian Islands, so this is definitely a valuable reference.
