Reviews - What do customers think about The Mother-in-Law Dance: Can Two Women Love the Same Man and Still Get Along??

Beyond the Mother or Daughter-in-Law Relationship  Feb 18, 2007
Annie Chapman has an amazing way of being blunt, but still encouraging on a very delicate topic. This book offers so much advice for the typical blunders that women find themselves in. I feel that all mothers with sons and all daughters desiring to get married should read this book.

Wonderful Non-Bashing Book!  Jan 19, 2007
This book has really helped me out a lot in my relationship with my Mother-in-Law. It makes both sides step back and really look at the situation and try to understand where the other person is coming from. It doesn't bash or put down either one. I would recommend it to every mother-in-law and daughter-in-law!

Helpful Home Life  Jan 11, 2007
The book is nicely written--from a Christian perspective. Mostly helps with mothers of sons who have to share them with "the wife". Some tips were helpful for relating to my own mother-in-law and being a mother-in-law. I am in a group using the book for group discussion. Lends itself somewhat to this type of setting.

Be aware that it is written from an evangelical Christian perspective  Oct 21, 2005
I was looking for help dealing with a problematic mother-in-law relationship, so I ordered this book. I found reading some of the personal stories in the book helpful, but I didn't realize that it would be so clearly from an evangelical Christian perspective. I didn't find that aspect helpful for me, although I'm sure it might be for others who share that point of view.

Also, the author is not a professional psychologist or family therapist, so those looking for that type of perspective and advice should look for a different book.

The Mother-In-Law Dance  Jun 20, 2005
I believe this is an excellent book. My mother in law and I had a big fallout after my daughter was born. If I had read this book beforehand it may have alleviated some of the tension we have now. It talks about establishing boundaries of a new family, respecting or rejecting advice, overcoming conflict, forgiveness, and of course your husband and how she feels pushed out of this new unit or family. I like the biblical references, God's standard is high. We might not achieve that "Ruth and Naomi" relationship but it gives something to aim for...For me personally, it's going to take time to heal the rift we have but I'm trying and the book helps. My motherin law said some really mean things. I intend to be married to my husband until death do us parts and I want to have a half way decent relationship for my husband but also my child andof course ME. When you don't forgive the only person you're hurting is yourself. You can't let the bittnerness consume you.
