A Great Book to Dive Into! Oct 14, 2006
This novel is a page turner, with characters who hold your attention and your heart. For the modern reader there is allusion to reincarnation and past lives in this richly woven saga of love and reversal and perseverance as the protagonists are buffeted by fate. The author's research into the history and mores of 18th Century France is thorough and vivid. Before you know it, you have turned the last page and are left with the void that follows a great read.
Love, Loss & Erotic Obsession in 18th Century France Dec 24, 2005
If you are looking for a story to lose yourself in, this is it! Peopled with vibrant characters this is a feast of a novel that will sweep you away to the opulent world for France in the mid-1700s. Four childhood friends from families bound together by business-two of them, Richard Magniet, the youngest son of the Baron of Beauvu and Christina DiClementi plan to spend their lives together until those expectations are shattered by an violent murder which sets them both on a course of heart rending loss, erotic obsession and new alliances. From the houses of the nobility and the great abbey of Montmajour to the brothels of a bustling city, from a simple Corsican cottage to the canals of Venice, they struggle to mold their lives around the memory of love that will ultimately reshape itself into something far beyond themselves. This is storytelling at its very best, a complex and compelling novel that will capture your imagination so strongly that you will find yourself reading that final page with a pang of regret. Enjoy!!
