I LOVE this book!! I bought it and read it to my grandson. So true!!
Perfect gift idea from a Grandma to be! May 7, 2010
My son is in the military, and will be deploying next month. He will not be back in the US until after the birth of his first child. I wanted to send something for my new grandbaby, while my son was there to receive it. This book is a wonderful book about a grandma loving the grandbaby before it comes, just as she loved it's daddy before he came. It is very touching. I hope it's going to be read over and over, particularly since I live on the other side of the country.
Maybe I missed it, but it's for the grandma of the FATHER! Feb 8, 2010
I am a new mother and I was going to give this to my mother as a gift. When I got it I read it and it talks about how the baby kicked in mommies tummy just like daddy kicked in grandma's tummy when he was a baby. Well, that won't work for my mom! Other than that, it's a bit too sentimental for my liking.
There should be more books such as this... Jan 29, 2010
The illustrations are beautiful and delightful to the eye. The story flows as you anticipate each page turn. However, this book is about a PATERNAL GRANMOTHER who's son and daughter-in-law give birth to a BABY GIRL. This book would make a wonderful gift for new grandmothers fitting into that situation.
There should be more books such as this one that cover various means in which a woman becomes a grandmother because I was quite disappointed to have to give this away after buying because it no longer fit our circumstances when our daughter came home from China. I would love to see a book as beautifully written as illustrated as this book for adoption situation as well.
Over all, I *loved* the book and wished I could have gifted it to my mother-in-law.
Full disclosure May 7, 2009
A sweet idea for a book, however, it definitely has limitations. I'd hoped to buy a few to send to my friends who are becoming new grandparents. I was disappointed, though, when I saw that the grandparents depicted in the book are pictured as gray-haired and quite elderly. Most new grandparents I know do NOT look that old. Also, I did not realize that the book was written for only the SON'S/FATHER's parents. It is clearly written from the point of view of the new father's parents, thus making it inappropriate to give to the parents of the daughter who had the baby. There is no way to know that nuance from the title and could cause some embarrasment if unknowingly given to the parents of the daughter.
