Reviews - What do customers think about Come and Go By Faith?
A Familial Overview Jan 27, 2009
Come and Go By Faith is more a series of biographical snapshots than comprehensive narrative on the history of the Pickette Family, say, post-Slavery to present, which is what I wanted to find. However, the stories still made for an enjoyable read that inspired reminiscing about time spent with my grandparents.
In this book, Ms. Pickette-Smith offers a glimpse that spans decades and generations into the history and experiences of an American Black family. It also offers a telling of the average experience, one accessible to all, which does not portray the super human as much as offer hope for what is possible if you retain family and community ties and rise up with their support. Stories like this are important and much more valuable than the extraordinary tales that dominate most literary works, because, as the author illustrates, even the most challenged can make the best out of our individual life situations - if we have faith.
