Item description for Am I Good Enough?: Preparing for Life's Final Exam (LifeChange Books) by Andy Stanley...
Overview AM I GOOD ENOUGH? An updated edition of the bestselling book, now geared toward the next generation of young people who are asking the question, "Don't good people go to heaven?" Christians claim that Jesus is the only way to heaven. But how could a good God, who created the entire universe in all its diversity, be so limiting? Isn't it more fitting to believe that good people from any religious or nonreligious background go to heaven, rather than people from one particular belief system? And how can Christians say that Christianity is fair, when so many factors make it harder for one person to accept Jesus, and easier for another? Christians and non-Christians alike ask these important questions, and they are worthy of honest answers. There are advantages to believing good people go to heaven, but there are also unavoidable problems. Upon close analysis, we discover that this system fails to provide us with a standard for discerning between good and bad, nor does it clarify what grade is passing. Would a good God leave us in the dark as to His standards for heaven? What is more, "Good people go to heaven" makes Jesus out to be a liar. Jesus said good people don't go to heaven, and bad people do. According to Jesus, it's forgiven people who go to heaven.
Publishers Description I Ask Myself Every Day...“Am I Good Enough?” Christians claim that Jesus is the only way to heaven. But how could a good God, who created the entire universe in all its diversity, be so limiting? Is Christianity unfair? Isn’t it more fitting to believe that good people from any religious or nonreligious background go to heaven, rather than people from one particular belief system? Maybe not, says Andy Stanley. In this updated edition of the bestselling book, teen readers will find out why Jesus taught that goodness is not even a requirement to enter heaven—and why Christianity is beyond fair. Andy Stanley leads the next generation of young people to a grateful awareness of God’s enormous grace and mercy.
If only good people go to heaven,
would I make the cut?
If Christianity is true,
why is God so narrow-minded?
And why aren’t the answers obvious?!
They are. Find out why being “good enough” has nothing to do with heaven’s requirements, and why God is, in fact, not fair at all.
Story Behind the Book
Andy Stanley has a heart for families and a special place for today’s youth. Having served for many years as a youth and young adult pastor at a large church in Atlanta, his greatest goal was to lead a young person to Christ. With the success of his book How Good Is Good Enough and its acceptance as a widely used evangelistic tool, it was a natural step to refine this important question for the youth of today. Andy wanted to write a text that was aimed right at the heart of today’s young culture and put a cover on the book that would interest and attract them to it. Today’s youth are constantly looking for assurances in a crazy world. They get that assurance by learning that it is not how good you are, but that you are forgiven.
Andy Stanley is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary and the founding pastor of North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Georgia, with a youthful congregation of more than 16,000 on three campuses. Andy is the author of the 1998 ForeWord Book of the Year finalist Visioneering , the bestsellers Like a Rock and The Next Generation Leader, and the recent How Good Is Good Enough? Andy and his wife, Sandra, have two sons and a daughter.

Reviews - What do customers think about Am I Good Enough?: Preparing for Life's Final Exam (LifeChange Books)?
Excellent Book Jul 9, 2008
This book was so helpful with knowing if you're good enough to get into heaven. It addresses the "just be a good person" issue of salvation and I found it very easy to understand and practical. Also very short! Easily read in a couple hours so it's perfect for those who don't like to read ans also thought-provoking enough for those who do like to read. Excellent book!
Amazing, should be on every Christian's bookshelf! Apr 2, 2008
This is a small book, but it makes a huge impact! Andy Stanley writes with wry humor at times, but he gets to the heart of the matter in a wonderful way. He leaves the reader to make up his own mind, but what he has to say, is something that every person who believes in the "good people go to heaven" theory needs to read.
Good people don't go to heaven...forgiven people go to heaven. There ARE no good people, for all fall short of the glory of God.
Andy explains in detail why this theory, which has been around forever, is so flawed. How do you measure goodness? You can't, because none of us have been given anything to measure it by!
This book is a gem, one of the most thought provoking and enjoyable books I have ever read. If you're already a Christian, use this book to reach out to others. If you're not...well, read it and make up your own mind. Realize that you're banking your eternity on a theory which just doesn't hold up.
