Item description for Voodoo in Haiti: Catholicism, Protestantism & a Model of Effective Ministry in the Context of Voodoo in Haiti by Andre J. Louis...
The Republic of Haiti is a fascinating country of contrast where are joined together tradition and illiteracy, high religion and folk religion, light and darkness. It is a country ravaged by poverty and afflicted by a considerable social backwardness where people live in a constant fear of a heavy and gloomy threat which impregnates every fiber of the society in which they live: that of Voodoo. Through this captivating work, Dr. Andre J. Louis translates us into a world that most ordinary people would never even imagine the existence of such occultism where superstition, sorcery, magic, spiritism, divination, and animism combine all their strength in order to set up the background of the daily life of each Haitian, which, unfortunately, overwhelms him with a heavy weight of fear, economic bondage and uncertainty regarding his future.

Reviews - What do customers think about Voodoo in Haiti?
anti vodou treatise Jun 1, 2008
When i purchased this book, i was excited to have found another read which may give further insights into this wonderful yet misundserstood religion. After beginning the preface, i had to put the book down, for i could not subject myself to what appeared to be xenophobic rhetoric. The second paragraph of the preface begins with: "This religion endeavors to penetrate all social classes, thoughout all religious, political and economic organizations of this world. Its plan is very well structured in ordered to cause trouble everywhere, which is its primary goal." It goes on with such statements such as: "works openly his followers and realizes his plan of destruction," and "he succeeds in deceiving them by making them accomplish his own duties while they think that they are doing God's will." i do not subscribe to what, in my opinion, is spiritual hate mongering, and for that reason, i can recommend this book to noone, as there is no lack of hate or predjudice or ignorance in this world. Purchase this book at your own discretion.
