Item description for Stitches by Amy OBrien...
"I suppose for some, knitting is just a hobby. But to me, it's an art form. It's my passion. Where oils may be the medium of the painter, my medium is wool and cotton, angora and cashmere, bamboo or mohair in the most fantastic of shades and colors. I can't not knit. It's a necessary part of my being." Molly GardnerMartha, a lonely young mother of two, finds herself isolated on Martha's Vineyard in a deteriorating marriage. When she reluctantly joins Molly Gardner's knitting group at Stitches to knit an afghan for charity, she finds herself among a group of women she can confide in. Through poignant stories of her eccentric Great Aunt Frieda, Molly imparts the lessons she learned about life, love and knitting. As Frieda takes center stage through an almost ghost-like presence, her Mae West style and strength of character embolden Martha to make a difficult choice.

Reviews - What do customers think about Stitches?
 | An affair to deny Aug 30, 2009 |
| This book is really about a woman whose husband is cheating on her, but he denies it all the way. Her ultimate decision is whether or not she will trust herself or trust his words. I love Great Aunt Frieda! Her wise words and Molly's great knitting shop, plus the dialogue that goes on between the women really are the voices that go on inside the head of a woman going through something like this. Should I stay or should I go? What is real and what is fake? Am I crazy? It's written in screenplay format so getting to know the characters takes some time at first, but after that it reads like an entertaining short story. |
