Reviews - What do customers think about Las Palabras Y Los Muertos: Una Gran Novela Sobre Las Intimidades Del Poder En Cuba (Spanish Edition)?

Cuban history from point of view of Fidel's bodyguard  Sep 29, 2008
Fidel is dead. The book opens with Fidel's favorite bodyguard receiving this news. As he sits in his office, shivering from the air conditioning, he relives the events in his life that brought him into contact with Fidel, from joining the rebels as a child in the Sierra, to becoming the trusted shadow of the man he reveres. The surrealistic flashbacks and the naivete of the protagonist's recollections bring us into the inner circle of power and give us a view of history that subtly contradicts the official, "approved" version. The surprise ending is a logical outcome of the bodyguard's blind devotion.

With this book Amir Valle won the Mario Vargas Llosa Prize, 2006. A prolific writer, he is now living in exile in Berlin. This book is banned in Cuba. The first two chapters are available in English by writing to ranavy@aol.com.
