Item description for Around the World With Citizen Train: The Sensational Adventures of the Real Phileas Fogg by Allen Foster...
George Francis Train was, among other things, the real Phileas Fogg: capitalist, communist, royalist, revolutionary, genius, lunatic, visionary prophet, pacifist, warmonger, presidential aspirant, and later, candidate for dictator of the United States, railroad pioneer, writer, and, ultimately, an eccentric. In July 1890, George Train set out on one of the most famous journeys ever made, traveling around the world in 80 days and finding himself immortalized two years after his return in Jules Verne's famous story as Phileas Fogg. This book details Train's incredible undertaking and chronicles his amazing life and times, including the story of how he was falsely accused of stealing 2 million during the gold rush in Australia and then offered the presidency of the Australian Republic.

If I did not already know that George's life was actually this dramatic and exciting, I would surely not beleive it was possible. And the Author has really done his homework!! Remarkably accurate from the usual rumor and story about this often misunderstood former statesman....I ought to know...George Francis Train is my Great, Great, Great, Grandfather's Cousin :)
