Item description for Jesus in the House: Gospel Reflections on Christ's Presence in the Home by Allan F. Wright...
Overview Biblical scholar Wright explores 29 usages of RhomeS in the Scriptures, offering a reflection on the Gospel story, a prayer, reflection questions, and challenges to the reader. (Catholic)
Publishers Description The word "home" is used thirty-three times and the word "house" ninety-nine times in the Gospels of the New Revised Standard Version Bible. While many of us typically envision a Jesus who publicly preached in the streets and on the hillsides of Palestine, Jesus also ministered often in the home. "Why was it that Jesus spent so much of his time in the homes and houses of the people?" Allan Wright asks. "How did Jesus' own experience of home assist in his formation throughout his childhood and facilitate his understanding of the importance of home? More importantly, what lessons are there for us? Do we still need the presence of Jesus in our homes today? How much different would homes be today if we taught, forgave, healed and shared meals like Jesus did?" Biblical scholar Allan Wright explores twenty-nine usages of home in the Scriptures, offering a reflection on the Gospel story, a prayer, reflection questions and challenges to the reader. Written for families, small groups or personal use, "Jesus in the House" encourages all of us to bring the presence of Christ into our homes.

Reviews - What do customers think about Jesus in the House: Gospel Reflections on Christ's Presence in the Home?
A very unique look at the Gospel Sep 1, 2007
I heard Allan Wright speak at a church function recently and found him very articulate and thought-provoking. Since I read and liked his last book I decided to order his new one. Wright uses Gospel stories about Jesus' interaction in the home life of his family and friends as a guide to spiritual reflection. Each chapter is geared toward group reading with questions for discussion at the end, though it works well for private meditation as well.
Along the way, the author disambiguates the Gospel's English translation to help us understand what's really happening. So much of our scriptural reading is filtered through the prism of our twenty-first century experience and we overlook or misunderstand metaphors that don't even remotely apply to modern life. We've also internalized so much myth that we cannot distinguish it from reality and this myth often alters scriptural understanding. For example, I was quite surprised to find that Jesus wasn't really born in a stable or barn. Rather, he was born in a private home with a manger in it as animals were commonly kept in the home. This popular image of Christ's birth is very much a myth.
I'd highly recommend Wright's book for anyone wishing for a spiritual reflection guide on the Gospels or who wish a better understanding of what the stories really mean.
Excellent book...a MUST read! Jun 6, 2007
Thoroughly enjoyed this book! Wright does a superb job of mixing Scripture and Church history with current day applications. It is obvious that the author is well versed in Scripture and has done an immense amount of research on this topic. Great book for families and group settings.
EVERYONE SHOULD BUY THIS BOOK Jun 2, 2007
This new book by Allan Wright should be in everyones house. I particularly like it because you can pick it up and read a random chapter and start reviewing the family situations in your own life and realize how important your family is to your well-being and happiness. Anyone with children will realize how important it is to sit down at mealtime and discuss the days activities with the kids and perhaps learn of their problems and frustrations.
Its a good read and you will be a better person for having read it.
