Item description for The Art of Spiritual Listening: Responding to God's Voice Amid the Noise of Life (Fisherman Resources) by Alice Fryling...
Overview A quick glance at the headlines reveals a world plagued by violence, hatred, unrest, disease and death--a world without hope. A look into our hearts yields similar results: loneliness, anger, sorrow, and depression are companions many of us would rather not carry. What happened to the "abundant life" Jesus promised us?
William Frey suggests that root of the problem is a loss of memory. In our haste to study and know the Bible, we have failed to experience the story of the Bible, and thus we have forgotten who we are.
The Dance of Hope helps readers regain the Bible story as it reveals the fullness of our identity as God?s creation, recovers a biblically founded hope for the future, and equips the Christian community to be bearers of authentic hope to the world. When believers view the Bible story through what William Frey calls a "creation lens," they discover a promised future of glory that can fill them with hope for today.
Also included is a study guide that leads readers through times of prayer, reflection, personal assessment, and Scripture study, teaching them to view the world through hopeful eyes.

Reviews - What do customers think about The Art of Spiritual Listening: Responding to God's Voice Amid the Noise of Life?
Another One Of Personal Preference May 10, 2006
This is a workbook that Pastor (my husband) and I did together.
I think it's a very nice workbook however the lessons for each are rather long, so you'll spend quite some time with this workbook if you really take the time to ingest and digest and apply it to your life.
The author in this book even suggest in the response part of the book that "this make take two or three settings". And sometimes I found that best.
I feel if you really take your time with this, and really think about what the bible story said, and be honest with yourself about how you feel or relate to that and answer and break it down to smaller parts to where you can really get it. It's good.
This isn't a workbook you'd want to rush through...it really requires you to think and relate and answer. And Pray. That's one of the things I can honestly say this workbook made me do while we were studying it and completing it, is PRAY.
The bad thing about it is- it does have a bit of things where the author assumes you are already aware of or should know-and he doesn't take that into account a few times in the study. But that doesn't ruin the study.
SO-take your time with this one. This book has only 8 chapters but there is SO MUCH in this book- I reccomend spending at least a month on it so that you don't miss anything! And you don't feel rushed. Break the chapters in half for your study if it will make it easier for you.
Oh- there is a bit of big words here in the third chapter, but you are given a good explination of what, and how.
If you can preview this workbook before purchasing it, I would suggest that you do just to see if the preview interest you enough to purchase.
