Reviews - What do customers think about Holy Bible Complete Kjv DVD?
The best you can find of it's type! Jan 3, 2008
This product is the best of it's type that you can get today. If you want the King James Version (even if you prefer others) and if you adore the voice of Alexander Scourby, then you will be very enriched with this product. It is not perfect, but it does an excellent job of going through the text of the Bible with understanding and clairty.
It is NOT software so don't expect it to behave like software. I love the fact that I can have it on as I am doing other work and pop my head in now and then to review the text whilst it is being read. Scourby has such wonderful inflections that it is easy to be drawn to pay attention.
One thing you will note in this DVD series: The voice will be speeded up from time to time as is the practice to fit audio into limited space. It can also be slowed down to streach and fit where needed. This doesn't really impeed the listening but is noticable.
Mostly of all ... Enjoy it and be blessed!
Limited Options for Listener Dec 30, 2007
I love the voice and drama of Scourby but, you cannot pause, backup or forward. Once you select at the beginning, it is very difficult to change chapters, reverse, pause or forward. I am disappointed since this makes it unuseful for the morning study I had hoped for.
Is this the same recording as the CDs? Dec 4, 2007
I recently purchased the CD version of this product. I agree with the other reviewers that Scourby did a splendid job and his voice is the best. But as I said in my review of that product, there is just one HUGE problem with this product. The problem is the sound quality of the Old Testament. The New Testament sounds great, wonderful, clear, crisp, and full of vitality; but the Old Testament sounds like Scourby has a bucket over his head, or worse. Every disc of the OT has the same problem and it is deplorable, so much so that I cannot even stand listening to the OT. This is extremely disappointing, to say the least. So I'm wondering if anything was done about the sound quality for the DVD version, although I doubt any significant improvement can be made to the original recordings. Since I don't know how the sound quality of the OT is on this DVD version (although I assume it's the same), I'll rate it at three stars for now.
The Bible as it was meant to be read. Sep 14, 2007
Alexander Scourby is simply amazing! He reads the Bible with an understanding of the Bible that is revealed in his inflection and proper emphasis. I have only caught a couple of minor errors in his reading and I have been through the entire Bible several times with him on tapes and this DVD.
This is great for reading the Bible with others. You can of course pause at anytime to discuss a passage, yet it makes it easy to get through a whole book so that you can get the meaning in the context of that whole book.
I have another DVD Bible and there is no comparison. The mistakes in the other DVD reading are numerous and the reading often shows an utter lack of understanding of what is being read. It has background music that can make it hard to hear the narration at times, especially for the hearing impaired. Also the use of unconventional pronunciations in that version may leave you wondering who some of the people are, where some of the places are and is this the same KJV you know?
I agree to an extent with another reviewer that the navigation could be easier but this is a video DVD not computer software. I would not expect to be able to cut down a giant oak with a coping saw. You can go directly to any chapter but for the Book of Psalms etc. you will have to go through many steps to get to the higher numbered chapters. There is some very good software out there of which I have tried several and the downloadable Online Bible is by far my favorite. Having this open on your laptop while viewing the DVD can be a good compliment to your studies as you can look things up and compare passages very quickly and easily, but is not necessary to a fruitful study.
I cannot recommend this product enough. I imagine they will improve upon it in the future but for now it is, in my humble opinion, the best choice and money well spent.
Expected more options... Aug 17, 2007
This is basically a put into DVD player, turn on and play with options only to play entire book, or play entire chapter. I expected it to be able to navigate through chapters with more ease and for it to have more interactive features.
For the narration, it gets 5 stars. I purchased because of Alexander Scourby's voice, my parents had the cassette tapes for ages and I always popped one in when I wanted to take a break from reading. His voice made "reading" the Bible a lot more interesting.
